I'm ever so tempted by an Audiophonice NCore power amp.
They are by and large a little bit cheaper than Nord.

But the thought of an extra £xxx for import tax etc when it arrives, would make a Nord build more senisble.

Anyone bought any HiFi kit from Audiophonics or other EU company recently ?
Stung with massive customers charges ???

Cheers

I think you will struggle even to purchase it.
Tried to buy a CD set from an Italian website a couple of weeks ago and the transaction was stopped at payment time.
I'm going to try again in a few weeks and hopefully this shambolic mess may have been sorted by then.

Purchased an old Sony amp via Reverb from a seller in France last month. Sent via DPD who required me to pay UK VAT and their fee prior to delivery and it arrived in 3 days door to door with no issues.

It's just VAT. If the purchase price x 1.2 is acceptable to you, then go right ahead.

Would there not also be a duty charge now, and a handling / processing fee from the carrier as well?

I purchased a DJ mixer from Germany in January and this is how the costs worked.

£155 for the unit delivered vis DHL. A fraction over £50 in additional charges (VAT, duty, clearance fee etc.)

Yes this is what I'm wondering, and if so what are the additional charges ?

As you say, once you know these you can decide to bother or not.

I've looked for informaiton, incl Audiophonices website (which looks v much like it does deliver to the UK), and advice is confusing. So I thought I'd ask if anyone has recent experience.

Horse's mouth as it were.

If you find out the tariff number of the item in question, check it on the gov site, you'll get the duty rate. Probably a couple of % and the 20% vat.

Find out who the shipper will be and you should be able to find their charges.

If it were me, I'd probably base a rough guess on 30% including a handling / processing fee and if that shows a decent saving, look closer.

ETA, amended my guess given that TNT's admin fee could be 5%...

Thanks guys.

Checked the tariff number and it's 20%, and 20.5 Euros for the French postal service to deliver it.
(hmmm they don't have a great reputation....)

Still loads cheaper than the Nord equivalent. Same Hypex boards and inplementation (dual mono).

I might just take a punt.

They look good they do. Be interested in your thoughts if you get one?
