I'm experiencing ongoing problems with my Sky Q box.

It often will not let me switch it on and the fan is running a lot. It's not in a hot place. It's well ventilated and lives where the old Sky box lived for 10 years of untroubled service. I have to switch the power off for a few minutes and then reboot.

I've been through three Q boxes in 6 months. The last engineer switched the ECO mode off and told me that it would solve most problems, but that the fan would run and yes it was very nosey and yes it happens all the time and no there was not much I could do. Unfortunately the problems remain and I couldn't turn it on yesterday without the power off reboot.

Has anyone else experienced these problems?

I like the Sky package and wondered if there is another way to receive the service, as their boxes are clearly rubbish. Is it possible to use a different receiving system?

Are you 100% sure you have it in a well ventilated area? I know full well mine isn't in that great a location, fitted in a mounting bracket on the wall. But it's now approaching 4 years old and I've not had a single problem. I have the 2TB box, which might be a better box to go for?

WE have lots of issues like this with Sky Q in pubs and restaurants, constantly locking up and needing a reboot. We started switching them back to HD boxes, much more reliable.

Latest update had caused mine to crash 3 times in the last 5 days.

Seems to be very hot when I have to pull the plug to reset it as well.

Are you using a mesh WiFi system by any chance?

I've had exactly the same symptoms since I installed a TP-Link mesh. Resolved by excluding the SkyQ and Mini boxes from the mesh system WiFi, and only connecting to the Router's WiFi. Alternative is to hardwire using Ethernet.

Perform a software update (take note of the current version so you can check that it has updated if there is an updated version available).

Having the same issue. 1tb box is in an open ventilated position, but runs hot and then locks up. Also suffers sound/pic sync when starting a recording but catches up after a second or two.

Software is up to date, and done a rebuild with no success.

I did a bit of digging into my lockups recently.

The Sky Q box doesn't handle mesh networks very well at all. Particularly TP-Link systems.

I've turned the Mesh function off for my Sky Q box within my networks settings and will see how it behaves.

Which version of Q box is it? The v1 UHD (non HDR) is noisy and can get warm.
