Firstly sorry for the grainy photo, it's all I've got!

Backstory: I got my first cheap separates system in 1992 when I was in sixth form after saving the money from my paper round (remember those?). I upgraded the amp in 1995 whilst I was at university and my setup consisted of a Kenwood KA3020SE amp, a Philips CD624 CD player, a Denon TU-260L tuner and Sony SS-176EB Brooklands Edition speakers.

During that time, I got given an old tape deck which I used with all my old self made mix tapes but until now, when I dug out an old photo, I totally forgot I had it. I've no idea where it's gone as my memory of university is a little hazy hehe I'd love to know what it is if possible.

I've done a google image search for vintage tape decks, a reverse image search and scoured ebay to find a match, all to no avail. So, the question to the PH collective is, does anyone have any ideas what make and model my old tape deck was? I realise this is a huge long shot but you never know biggrin

No idea on the tape deck - the image isn't that helpful smile

Was it more a compact sized separate? Looks it from the photo. Any idea of vintage?

Ref the rest of the kit, you and I are of similar vintage I think smile I just re-setup my Kenwood 3020SE and Denon (380) tuner in my workshop...I have a Technics CD player, Technics tape deck and TDL RTL2 speakers though (pretty sure I looked at the Sonys at the time). Sounds great!

Thank you so much, I had reservations about posting this as I thought it might be a bit pointless, so I can’t tell you how much I appreciate getting the answer! It does make me a bit sad that I have no recollection of where it went after finishing university though!

Yes it was a pretty crap photo hehe I got given it free of charge by one of my lecturers, I believe it was 80s vintage. Unfortunately,I’ve no idea what happened to it frown

We must be similar age yes beer I wish I’d kept my old hifi gear but it always got sold to help pay for the next upgrade! I have very fond memories of the Kenwood 3020SE amp, it sounded great for the money.

I have a 3020SE. Brilliant amp. I've used it with lots of different speakers. At one point I had some second hand 40 quid Wharfedale 9s and a dragonfly black. For about 150 quids worth tops, it sounded brilliant.

Sound bars if you have limited space and funds do have a place (better than TV speakers) - but yes a decent set up is always preferable. Recently purchased a Denon sound bar for the spare room and whilst not a patch on the Marantz separates system in my livingroom it does fill a small room with sound and the wireless subwoofer can be placed anywhere.
