I have a Yamaha Bluray player, about two years old, which I recently linked up to a new TV via a new Marantz surround processor.

I don't have the processor fully set up for surround sound yet (still lacking rear speakers) but decided to play a disc or two today via the TV speakers only. All appeared fine ( I was watching a Bluray 'Madmen' box-set) until watching the second episode I realised that there was no opening title music on either episode - the titles played in silence and then when the episode proper started all dialogue and background sounds were fine. There was a scene at the office party and there were people dancing in the background but you couldn't hear the music - and then at the end when they normally roll the titles with some 60's song playing, silence again.

I tried this with several discs and also an older DVD disc that I knew was fine - all the same!

Totally weird and very puzzled - its the first time I have connected a system with HDMI so really don't know wat to do.

Seems the problem is the signal being fed to the processor is a multi-channel one and the sound I am getting is through the one speaker (the centre) that is actually connected to the Marantz. Tried to set the output from the Bluray to PCM but it doesn't have any affect. Still puzzled but working through it.

Music etc comes through the main (l&r) channels. As these aren’t connected yet - set your receiver to 6 channel stereo and it should mix both to your centre.

I’ll be the first to say - better to connect the other speakers. As it’ll sound awful as it is
