Hi,
I'm giving some thought to replacing my 10 year old Philips 58PFL9955H
I love the 21:9 aspect ratio of the philips so will be a bit sad to see it go but i'm well aware it's pretty dated and the poor blacks are really bugging me with some content. I'm also quite attached to the ambilight having had it for so long and it's making the decision to move away quite difficult.
Looking for recommendations that would fit best with my existing setup and my use. Mainly being youtube/netflix content via Apple TV 4k & HomePod stereo pair either side of the TV. I rarely play games, and i'm probably not good enough to notice any of the specific benefits in the newer sets.
I'm currently looking at 2 LG models, 55". I'm but open to any suggestions if there are perhaps less-feature filled options as i don't really use any built-in media features.

Thanks

I also had a Philips ambilight and then replaced it with an LG oled about 5 years ago. I only kept that for a short period as I missed the ambilight feature so replaced it with a Philips oled. Have you not considered the Philips oled as you mentioned you liked the ambilight feature?
Think current Philips model that is similar to the LG you are looking at is the 806.

I'm planning on buying the Panasonic 55" JZ2000 OLED with its built in Atmos speaker, but waiting for prices to drop.
I bought the Panasonic TX-55JZ1000B with a SC-HTB700EBK sound-bar as both where on offer. The OLED screen is beautiful and linked up to my XBox Series X with 120hz and Dolby Vision everything looks wonderful. I also was surprised it had twin Satellite tuners for Free-Sat which was a nice bonus.
The sound-bar has excellent sound for a lower priced model. It says it can handle Dolby Atmos but doesn't seem to allow Dolby Vision 4K 120hz passthrough using HDMI so not sure it really supports HDMI 2.1?
I got the LG 55 OLEDC1 in the Costco sale, picture is very good but the internal speakers/sound is bloody awful, I think they used some tiny speakers from Childrens toys or similar.
Disappointed because I don’t like sound bars and my sons Sony Bravia OLED 55 has excellent sound straight out of the box.
I’ve looked for a magic setting I’m missing that allows you to turn sound quality from piss poor to good but can’t find it.
Fortunately Costco allow you 90 days to decide if you want to keep it, it will be going back.

I love LG's oled TVs (buy speakers or a sounder - almost not TVs are worth compromising on using built-in speakers) but this looks like a treat - https://www.avforums.com/reviews/panasonic-jz2000-...

Is your son's one of the Sony sets where the screen is the speaker?Disappointed because I don’t like sound bars and my sons Sony Bravia OLED 55 has excellent sound straight out of the box.

If so, the sounds is pretty good (I use mine as the centre channel for a surround set up), but will never compete with a proper sound set up.
But if you like the Sony sound, buy a Sony. The picture's awesome too.

Yes it is Murph, bit of a story as to why I didn’t get the Sony which is what I went to Costco for but let’s say it involved a difference of opinion about form over function and the LG was a compromise….. however, it is now realised by said other person that function is more important than form when it comes to TV stands so the LG is going back, Sony will replace it! Thank god for Costcos returns policy! If so, the sounds is pretty good (I use mine as the centre channel for a surround set up), but will never compete with a proper sound set up.

I also bought the 55" LG C1 during black Friday, it's still £1100 @ Richersounds with a 6yr warranty.
It's brilliant, especially stepping up from a 10yr old 1080p LCD. Native 4k content is brilliant, built in speakers are poor though, as they mostly are these days, so got a Sonos Beam 2 on the way to take advantage of the Atmos processor

I've just got one from John Lewis with a 5 year warranty, £1199 plus £140 for 5 years accident damage including burn in (although they don't burn in anymore)
It is stunning, truly stunning.

The features on the C1 are small shifts. You can't small shift a 300x300 pixel icon or football scoreboard or computer start menu or video game head up display.
It's not an issue at all if you have various content but if you do watch sport or use it as a monitor it can.
