Govee Immersion LED TV lights
Discussion
I've watched a few youtube videos and they look mighty impressive for the money. I'm very tempted. I'd be very interested if anyone has these and can share some real world experience. Are they as good as they appear to be? Most of the videos use very colourful 'demo' footage, I'd be interested in what they're like when watching a movie, sport or gaming. Are they distracting or genuinely immersive?
I also have a concern that I may struggle to fix the camera to my very thin OLED TV, has anyone managed to do this?
Thanks in advance

Just to follow up for anyone whose interested. I took a chance and picked one up and, I have to say I'm very impressed given the cost. When using 'game mode' (which I'd recommend using for watching TV too) There doesn't seem to be any discernible lag between what happens on screen and the corresponding lights. It's pretty impressive.
I've watched a few movies since installing at have been surprised by how much it adds to the immersion. Colours can be slightly off at times but, I think that is more to do with my yellow walls than the lights themselves!
Definitely recommended.

Does the little camera not bug you being slap bang in the middle of the tv ?
I wish there was a simple way to add this so it works like the Phillips system , but I guess there isn’t
I installed mine at the bottom and don't really notice it at all to be honest. At the top, I agree it would be annoying as you're very aware of the perimeter of the screen due to the lights. The cleaner the silhouette, the better. At the bottom TV though, it feels perfectly normal that it's there - probably because there are already various gubbins down there like the TV stand and the odd cable so it doesn't really stand out.I wish there was a simple way to add this so it works like the Phillips system , but I guess there isn’t
Might have missed it in the amazon description but how many zones does it have? The pictures look like there is one for each quarter of the screen but can't see anything in the specs.
Currently have a home-brew ambilight using an Arduino but it only works with one source, was considering changing it about a bit so that it would work with the HDMI out from an AV receiver but if the above has a decent number of zones then it would save messing about.

Well it arrived, I set it up as per instructions.
I'm not impressed, I may have done something wrong but the flashy lights have no resemblance to what is on the screen. It appears to use the sound from the TV along with the camera, the sound bar is perhaps confusing it. I'll have another look when I have a second.

Sounds to me like you have it on 'Music mode' which would do exactly as you describe. Mine is set to Video and game mode. This makes it react to only what the camera sees and is hte most responsive (ie least laggy) setting.I'm not impressed, I may have done something wrong but the flashy lights have no resemblance to what is on the screen. I also found it better with low brightness (around 30%) and very, very low saturation with the white level setting with a strong bias towards blue.

I've used the first version and now this latest version (Immersion) for a while now...
Works pretty well and miles cheaper than getting the equivalent Hue lights with their hdmi sync box.
I think there's some new contenders out there now that mimic the hdmi box versus having a camera mount so worth having a look around on Youtube / Ebay / Amazon to see the latest and greatest.
One random tip for setting up the lights and the pattern on screen...
If you have a smart tv / apps etc...go to Youtube and search Govee Immerson setup / calibration etc....and there's a bunch of helpful vids which essentially put the orange cubes on the screen (on a looped vid) and there's one that does with the camera at the top and bottom...the idea being you don't have to faff around sticking stuff to you screen you can just jump straight to getting the camera calibration
I actually found pinning what would be the top of the screen ...near the middle..and found that it picked up more interesting colour / contrasts from there...rather than trying to stretch the grid into all 4 corners.
Once you've got it setup reasonably well, i found that dropping the "sensitivity" right down to around 20% gave better colour rendition results ...I had brightness on around 80%
One last thing to try once it's all working is to head back to youtube and fire up some of the many " Fluid colour flow" videos...essentially it's colours flowing around the screen - something like this...

With this you can really see how well the light are calibrated and how quickly they're responding to what's on screen and tweak accordingly.

I'd never heard of this, but I've just ordered the kit to see what it's like. I like the idea of it but not sure if it'll have the same effect with our TV being in the corner of the room so not against a flat wall?
My tv is in the corner..... Philips ambilight....and it's very effective, lights up the whole corner of the room.Don't know if the aftermarket versions are as bright though

Interested in picking up one of these.
Has anyone got a pic of the camera mounted to the bottom of the TV? Also how is it mounted?
How you mount it will depend on your TV. The camera itself has some pretty strong 3M tape so, you should just be able to fix it to the bottom with that. Has anyone got a pic of the camera mounted to the bottom of the TV? Also how is it mounted?
In my case, the underside of the TV isn't completely flat so, I had to find a workaround. I had to tape the camera to a piece of wood and just place it under the TV - it works perfectly.

Thanks for the reply. I'm 90% sure I will pick one up, especially as they are currently £50on amazon. In my case, the underside of the TV isn't completely flat so, I had to find a workaround. I had to tape the camera to a piece of wood and just place it under the TV - it works perfectly.
Bit concerned about the camera mounting as we have 3 cats who find it great fun to walk across in front of the screen! I imagine the camera will be the best cat toy ever!
Will have to see how it goes.
