I stupidly connected something with the volume high.
This was the amp that I recently asked for recommendations for a sub-woofer too. I bought one. Damn!
Anyhow worth fixing or just buy something else around 100WPC?
If so any recommendations? Only need stereo but with record desk input.

That Sony is 80 w.p.c. Hi-Fi amps at that power level are generally knocking on the door of £600-£1,000. There is a Cambridge Audio receiver (stereo tuner/amp) at 85 w.p.c. with a MM turntable input for £429 at Richers. Don't know what it sounds like. it's a Richer's exclusive so hasn't done the normal mag reviews cycle.

The sister product - AXR100 at 100 w.p.c. has been looked at by a few amateur review sites. An interesting comment from this one is that it's "not muscular". That's surprising for a stereo 100W amp. I'd expect it to be fairly potent if genuinely 100W. What's the 85-Watter version going to be like if 100W isn't muscular? I have a Yamaha multichannel amp here that I'm just about to list online for a customer. It's the DSP-A2070. That's an 80W for stereo amp that sounds like it has bottomless power. Almost 2dB of headroom which is almost unheard of in amp circles until you get to Bryston, Krell, Parasound territory.

You can have a read for yourself about the AXR100 here https://www.hifireport.com/cambridge-audio-axr-100...

I'd say the Sony is worth repairing. Even if it costs you £150 for a couple of new MOSFETs, what are you going to find new that'll match up to it without spending 6-8 times more?

@Lucid_AV thanks for the info. I'll take it in for a quote for repair then. And afterwards am going to treat myself to some new speakers.
