Which film to test 4K source?

OLED TV arriving next week.
Current setup is Plasma with 1080P source.
Which film would you choose first using a 4K source?
Obviously the Oscar for Best Cinematography category!

Sounds obvious but watch something you like.

I got an Apple TV 4K and an OLED recently and there's loads of technically amazing 4K content but it's as boring as hell after a few minutes.

Meanwhile watching the original Star Wars trilogy in 4K on Disney Plus blew my mind.

The other thing you will see is your electricity consumption will drop a noticeable amount.

The things that really pop on 4K OLED are light and dark contrasts. For example flames/fire at night. Try All Quite On The Western Front via Netflix.

Source does make a difference by the way.

Even HD via Netflix or Disney or Paramount Plus from the Apple TV still looks far better than FreeSat/FreeView.

The start of Amazon's "The Expanse" is excellent at taking advantage of this.

For the best experience, ensure you watch 4k via UHD player. Any 4k stream is still compressed, although it still looks good

You obviously need to make sure your sound system is up to scratch as good pic but crap tv sound would be terrible. So I’d focus on getting that sorted. An av receiver and a decent pair of floorstanders would be a good start.

Excellent list - all of the above except replace avatar with avatar 2 and I'd add the original bladerunner(definitely watch that before 2049 if you haven't seen it). I've watched quite a few older movies in 4k and they often end up looking really low budget (total recall in 4k for instance you could see the sets were pretty crap) but bladerunner looks amazing still.


Some more to add:
Spiderman Into the Spiderverse - fantastic animation and the colours really pop

Dune - also a good test of your audio system, will give your sub a workout

Exactly this.

They're both right and a visually good film (awful plot though) is Gemini Man. Shot in 60 frames per second it looks amazing.
