Is there much in a projector screens? i'm not after a thx certified setup, say under £2k.

I'm after an electric drop down. I can hide it or fit an actual recessed one.

size is 100-106", projector will be a 4k version, like under £2k ish type.

It'll come down in front of patio doors. I'm first fixing the room at the min so need to decide which screen, as all the dimensions are tight so need to make sure it fits etc!

There are lots of options for housings, I'll let you make your own mind up on those, but I'd say that grey high gain screens are amazing - and highly recommended.

I have a manual grey hawk and it really makes a huge difference in non light controlled rooms and, bizarrely, is brighter than a white wall due to the retro-reflection. the only downside is you need to sit in the 'gain-cone' or it's darker. but I'd really recommend trying a grey higher gain screen... they are like sorcery!

GL - I LOVE projectors biggrin

I had been looking at this

https://celexon.com/en-uk/products/celexon-project...

i'll be able to hide it behind a false wall, it doesn't seem to take much space up!

I've got a Grandview tab tensioned one. For me it needs to be tab tensioned as a minimum.

How are you managing the sound if the screen is dropping in front of patio doors?

I just got the cheapest tab tensioned motorised one I could find, think it was £350 or something and has been absolutely perfect for years

A simple 5.1 setup, I can get either side of the screen, centre speaker placement is a pain, might be a ‘pull out’, or centre goes over head of the seats, but 1.3 m from the screen towards the seating position

I use a £150 135" motorised Ebay screen. Its starting to curl in at the sides now but it took around 5 years to do that - and other than long panning shots you don't notice it. When tab tensioned ones cost £500 to £2k, I am thinking of mine as disposable / replaceable!

But , its true, non tensiones screens can curl. My 100" cheapo didn't do it mind you. If I was buying now, I'd never put money into a "premium" non-tensioned screen unless they have some magic formula, or a very. very long warranty.

My main driver is screen size vs installation space needed. That’s the key driver for my setup.

Take a look at cheap screens then, because the profile of mine is small. I cna't imagine it being any smaller.

£88 120" and looks pretty much identical in construction. Disposable! :-)

Ended up ordering this.

https://www.puretheatre.com/220cm-ceiling-recessed...

mainly for the packaging, how discreet it is and encoder's to regulate height. Great Uk company to deal with.

Looks nice, just hope it doesn't curl after 3 years or its a lot of money for what will look just like mine when you lower it (curled edges). RTB is pretty mean on a £1250 item - how many people are going to post that back?

Will install nicely into a ceiling void , that's for sure.

I opened the thread to suggest this. We have one, been in situ for 12 years and works perfectly.

All the reviews are amazing. Also, you can just replace the screen fabric also. Tab tensioned just wouldn’t work for me. It’s £40 years of post it.

I'm looking for a ceiling recessed screen but a grey / ALR version. Does anyone have anything they'd recommend.

I currently have a recessed screen but due to ambient light (non dedicated cinema room) I'm thinking ALR would improve the picture quality which while perfectly watchable is no doubt washed out in part.

It's probably worth getting some ALR samples and trying them in your room first as they can look VERY different. I tried a range of them when I was looking to build a fixed screen.

Ill see if I can dig out some pics.

Thanks. When you say they look different, in what sense and with what effect on pic quality?
