Im hoping there is someone on here who has done something similar.

I've wanted to get a "turntable" for a while but as we are heavily invested in Sonos kit & I can't get my family to move to a proper hifi ... I thought it wouldn't be possible. However... I've read about RCA to Optical converters.

I want to locate the record player where we have a Sonos playbar, problem being the player only has a single optical input and we obvs still want to connect the playbar to the tv.

So I've been looking for a device that allows multiple inputs. ideally a phono amp that has a RCA (which would take feed from record player) and an Optical input (from TV) that then has an optical output (to put into the single optical input on the playbar). But as of yet I've been unable to find one.

so in the absence of being able to locate one I'm thinking that I could do:

Rega Planar 3 (or a project debut evo 2) >
RCA output into a phono amp
something like a Rega Fono MM MK5>
RCA out from this to a RCA to Optical converter that has 2 optical inputs and a single switchable output
like a Lindy 2 Port Optical Audio Switch>
connect into the single optical input on my playbar and use the Lindy to switch between record player or tv as the input

The above seems a bit convoluted so my questions:

1. will this work or is there a better / simpler way to do this
2. will all the 'kit' ruin the sound

I do want to invest in a decent turntable as I do think in next year, once our building work is complete (we'll have another family room). I'll then be able to get a proper amp and 2 proper speakers to keep it simple. But in the meantime I think if I can get the Sonos idea to work I'll be happy! Of course any advice appreciated

I keep seeing ads on instagram for a device that takes your turntable phono output and streams it, A2D2 I think it is, no amp required, would that do it?

Thanks - I had come across this one. Do you have any experience with one and have a view of the quality of sound?

I haven’t used that specifically, but I have used a Pro-Ject phono stage and it was excellent.

Not sure I’d bother until I had the rest of an analogue setup though.

How about a Sonos Port?

https://www.sonos.com/en-gb/shop/port?srsltid=AfmB...

I have one attached to my ‘proper’ hifi, with Sonos around the rest of the house. Gives you the flexibility to add an analogue input and stream to the rest of the house too.

Obviously you would need a separates system to attach it too and some nice speakers etc but hey there’s always downsides wink

As miniman said; haven't used this but have used Pro-ject TT amps and they've been spot on - My brother now has my Pro-ject TT, amp and Arcam Alpha 10 integrated; as well as my Rega Apollo CDP

The Pro-ject stuff is very solid, I'd never doubt it
