Larger home TVs (75+ inch?)
Discussion
I'm looking at potential replacements for me (DeR supplied) ageing 55" Hitachi 55 PD 9700, and would like to step the size up again.
Without wanting to spend silly money on bleeding edge 110" stuff, I'd be interested to know what's available, and advisable, in the 75-90" range.
I've got a projector too, so not looking to replace that, just musing over the potentials plasmas (dont want rear projection)
Any thoughts / points in the correct direction would be appreciated.

Pioneer do a 60" and Panasonic a 65"
That's about it until you get to the 103"
;( was hoping there would be something a little bigger.. has the tech not moved on much in the last few years? That's about it until you get to the 103"
Is the 103 a semi sane price, or is it closer to the £1k an inch the prototypes go for?

£1K an inch?
Nothing close.
Would sir like it on the wall or a pedestal?
Much as I'd like to wall mount, I was told this 55 was too heavy, let alone anything bigger..Nothing close.

Just a musing for now, but rest assured as / when / if I move ahead, I'll have you over for a beer

65" around 7.5k
or
103" around 40k
Aye, cheapest I've found the 103 for is £40k list, I'd expect some movement on that, but that's just a little bit of overkill, plus there is the logistical issue of getting it in to my (potential) new apartment up 30 flights of stairs..or
103" around 40k
I wonder if I'm going to see that much of a difference between my 55" and a 65".. I'll be honest, I was hoping for a 75-80" screen for ~£5-8k.. maybe I'm just giving too much credit to how much the plasma market has moved on (or rather not) in the last 2 yrs.

There are no options I can think of. The 65" models from Panasonic and Sharp and the outgoing 70" model for Sony are the only really large screens we have encountered. The 103" Panasonic or 108" from Sharp are the next options. The 103" is not too deadly on the money but at that price a high performing projector ( in addition to your current one ) may be a more viable option depending on your room.

Squire,
I recently saw the Panasonic 150" job and tbh, it's a celebrity big bro' footballing trinket.
There are quite simply two paths open to ye, one of them soon to be closed orf forever.
Yes, Pioneer's venerable KRP-600A is the current masser but thereafter in the big sizes only Panasonic's 54" G/V10 series will do.
If you must have uber size (for HD films) then stick to uber duber front pojection and the sort of money you're talking might bag you a JVC DLA-HD750 plus bespoke lens shifter which is something of a recipe (with the requisite sound system) for audiovisual trouser removal.
