Hi All

I'd appreciate some advice, as I've checked AVforums and I'm confused as a confused thing as to the best way to connect my kit, I thought I'd ask you chaps.

I have:

Yahama DSP761 AV amp which can receive multi-channel LPCM via HDMI or decode DD, DTS etc via optical/coax (It has 2 HDMI 1.2 input - 1 HDMI output) - set up with 7.1 speaker arrangement.

PS3 which can output multi-channel LPCM via HDMI and other formats by optical

Sky+HD HDMI and optical

On Thursday I'll get a panny TX42V10 which has multiple HDMI inputs.

So which is the best way to connect for best audio:

PS3 and Sky+HD to Amp via HDMI - Amp to TV by HDMI

or

PS3 and Sky+HD to TV via HDMI (video only)
PS3 and Sky+HD to AMP via optical for audio

I hope that makes sense (as you can tell I need help!)

Edited to add. After a bit more reading is this be best option:

PS3 to AMP by HDMI for Audio and Video - AMP to TV via HDMI
Sky + HD to AMP by optical for audio (only PCM stereo via HDMI on Sky box?)
Sky + HD to TV by HDMI for video only

TIA

FG

What ever way works for you really, the only time you HAVE to use HDMI for audio is if the soundtrack is either Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master audio these are only carried by v1.3 or higher so with your amp it dosent matter. Optical for everything would be fine assuming you have the inputs but you will proberbly need to do a bit of mix and matching to get them all plugged in.

Personally id get as much of it done via hdmi mainly because they are less likely to fall out wink Its just a fair amount of menu fiddleing to get it working.

You'll want to connect your Sky HD via optical as the HD boxes don't carry DD via HDMI.
