Posted this in avforums but need a response so I can order some cables... I have the following equipment which I am attempting to link and would appreciate anyone's input.

* Philips 28PW9509 TV (can't get rid of this as nothing else comes close for SD quality)
* Sanyo PLV-Z5 720p/1080i LCD Projector
* Onkyo TX-SR 705 Amp/Receiver
* Denon 1920 DVD Player (with HDMI/upscaling)
* Amstrad DRX180 Sky+ box

I propose to connect (video) as follows:

DVD > AMP - HDMI (but will I still be able to output to TV through component/S-Video?)

SKY > AMP - Scart/Component cable (but does Sky box output in RGB only meaning I need a RGB-component converter or use S-Video cable?)

AMP > TV - Scart/Component cable (but does TV accept component signal rather than RGB or I need a RGB-component converter or use S-Video cable?)

AMP > Projector - HDMI (no issues here)

Thanks

OK there are 2 limiting factors, one is your TV it has 2 RGB inputs and 1 S-Video all via scart.
The other is that the amp will only output 1 Type of video connector at a time, so for instance if you have HDMI monitor turned on then no matter what you input the amp will output it from the HDMI port (Ideal for your projector) But to output fom one of the other connectors (for watching throught the TV and not the projector) then your gunna need to turn the HDMI monitor option to off
In short im fairly certain you can't output HDMI and S-Video at the same time but you are gunna need to change a menu setting every time you fire up the projector.

Also the amp will only output HDMI inputs via the HDMI output.

so...

DVD > AMP - HDMI (but will I still be able to output to TV through component/S-Video?)
NO it wont. But you can make it work by using S-Video instead.

AMP > TV - Scart/Component cable (but does TV accept component signal rather than RGB or I need a RGB-component converter or use S-Video cable?)
RBG and Component (YPrPb) although Component uses a lead coloured Red Green And Blue the signal is totally different so there is no such thing as a SCART to Component lead (some manufacturers did make dvd players that could output YPrPb via the RGB pins in a SCART but it isnt the norm). You can get RGB-YPrPb converter boxes but they are expensive. The TV does not accept a Component signal. Using the S-Video is the best option here.

So I propose the following as the best way (picture flow diag)

DVD > AMP - S-Video
SKY > AMP - S-Video
AMP > TV - S-Video - SCART lead connected to EXT2 on the TV (and select Y/C)
AMP > Projector - HDMI (Use the HDMI monitor option when you use the projector)
(obviously opticals or SPDIF for the audio)

You may be thinking that S-Video is old and crappy... well people do underestimate it, it is actually quite good and on that philips TV your not gunna see a difference between S-video and RGB

What about using S-Video on the DVD when it has an HDMI output??? Well its a DVD player its not a blueray, the HDMI output is only upscaled, so its a treadeoff as to what has the better upscaler the built in one in the DVD or the one in the AMP and for connectivity reasons in this application S-Video is the only viable option.

Sorry for the messy answer but it isnt an easy question, i hope its understandable, let me know if it isnt wink
