I have a Sky plus box and the volume control is no longer working.

Sky recommended I buy a new remote control (I'd assumed they would supply one free), but as the LED lights up on the remote when the volume buttons are pressed I wondered if the remote might be OK and the box itself faulty.

Is there any way of testing whether the remote is OK?

The quick way to test any remote is to point it at you mobile phone camera and press a few buttons.

If the front/top of the remote lights up then it is usually ok.

I've had this problem before - something to do with syncing the remote to the TV. Are there instructions on the inside of the remote battery cover. Different makes of TV hve different codes.

I recall having to check the manual to get the correct sequence of buttons to press to action the sync.

Somewhere in the on screen menus it gives full instructions on how to set your remote for your particular TV. Think it's in customer services or similar? Have a look through the menus you will find it.

What TV have you got? Do a google on it for the sky RC code for it.

(1)Press TV
(2)Press Select and the red button together until the led blinks twice
(3)Press TV

(4)ENTER the 4 Digit code you got fromm googling your TV
(5)Press Standby

(5)If your TV turn off then press Select and your done.

(6)If it does not turn off press TV then Standy then goto step (5)
If it never turns off then you either put in the wrong code or the code is not valid for that specific TV

Thanks for the info folks.

I don't think it a compatibity issue as I've always controlled the volume via the Sky box not the TV.

Some other buttons have now failed on the remote so I reckon a new one should cure things.

The Sky remote controls the TV volume, not the box volume, your remote must have been set to control your TV and now it is not or is broken.

As I said before, check in the Sky menus and there is instruction somewhere that tells you how to set it and gives you the codes, I'm not near my Sky box so cannot be more specific.

Exactly. The Sky box only sends A/V to the TV and no command signals. The remote has volume controls on it to control the TV and this seems to have lost the correct code. Did you replace the batteries recently?

I've tried doing what you suggested but can't find the codes for my TV.

I've searched the Sky website and they can't provide a code, and the ones off Google aren't working.

It's a Sony Trinitron KV-28L if anyone knows where else to look.
