I need to get a hard disc recorder primarily because my new job means working some Sundays which enevitably means I will be missing some of the F1 races!!

I dont want to spend much and I was wondering which ones would you reccomend?

I dont have HD, just Freeview.

Also, do any of them allow you to transfer recordings to an external HD or computer?

Cheers!!

Generally they all have 2 Internal Freeview Tuners independent of your TV. There are no HD Freeview recorders at the moment so the choice is limited to those that have HD outputs which "upscale" or standard SCART output. The best sellers are the HUMAX 9150T and 9300T. The 9150 is the standard version and can be bought for just under £100. The 9300 has the HD "upscaled" output and is usually at least £150. The TVOnics range also have good performance and are made in the UK. When it comes to transferring recordings I think you need to look at the more expensive units with Network capabilities. They can be seen on a Network(usually off a ADSL router), and so you can pull the programs on to your PC. An Alternative is the Panasonic DVD-RW unit with a HDD and a single Freeview Tuner. That would allow you to record to DVD.
