My first cinema
Discussion
I am very exited as I have now ordered the parts for my first ever cinema room. Originally planned for a huge Telly for the living room, but I was put off by having to have lots of speakers and electronics all over the place. Instead the living room will have a simple tv and nothing else. Another room will now be dedicated for large screen (7ft wide) viewing.
I am sorry to say I have not gone for a panasonic, viewing will instead come courtesy of a Sim2 mico60. It was an absolute (relative) bargain, almost half price brand new! The deal is still on until tomorrow if anyone else is interested.
Can't wait to load up my first blue Ray.

Congratulations on the SIM. I was reading about it, but it's a little over my budget right now...I'll make do with a more humble 2 year old JVC HD350/VideoEQ CMS unit. The biggest pain is that the UHP lamp drifts over time so my recent 'perfect' calibration will need doing again as the hours pile on from the current 600 or so...I guess with an LED light source you won't have that problem.
Are you going for a high gain screen at all? I think I saw the quoted lumens at around 700 so in practice you'll probably be equal if not brighter than a UHP powered PJ once the hours are on the lamp anyway. Just make sure you properly darken the walls and celing to get the best out of the high ANSI contrast that SIM will have...If I hear that you put it in a room with white walls and a matt white screen I'll have to send the boys round.

Saw the demo of the lower model and it was mindblowingly good. The picture was better than any tv we have seen, including our old b&o crt's. Even with the lights on it was good.
No to the white walls, although not decided on them yet. Also unsure about the screen, the budget was completely blown on the projector itself (along with the lowew tv). All I know is it will be huge!

I don't know if you're planing a fixed screen or electric, but I got a tab tensioned 10' wide 2.35:1 electric screen from a company called Beamax*. It's been up for 2 years now, but not a wrinkle in it due to the tensioning system. If you've blown the budget on the PJ, I'd suggest getting a 'make do' cheapy that will probably wrinkle after a year, but it'll give you time to save up for a decent one as it'll make all the difference. Having said that there was a decent 92" screen on AVForums classifieds recently quite reasonably priced, I'll see if I can find the link.
This one's a bit bigger than you said, so might not do:

Can't seem to find the 92" one, maybe it's sold. But keep an eye on there are they do come up from time to time.

There's a lot of owners of fixed screens on the AVForums. Might be worth looking out for 'Carada' as they seem to be well thought of, though I believe you have to import them and then of course assemble it as they come rolled up in a tube. Good idea getting a fixed screen though if you can accomodate one as you shouldn't have any worries about wrinkles, etc.
I'm off to a launch of the new JVC X series this Saturday, just to torture myself as I'm not in the market for one just yet.

I was really tempted by the jvc x series, however There was always this little niggle in the back of my mind asking how often I would really watch 3d. A large screen is certainly the correct format for 3d, but launches I have read about so far have had bad reviews. Most of this is down to poor set up, and even using copied blu rays!
Best of luck with the launch, I am sure that if properly set up they will sell themselves.
