freeview/freesat
Discussion
Having had both, and currently on Freesat, I'd say it depends on your Freeview reception. Where I am, the signal was very much at the mercy of the elements on Freeview but Freesat is a lot more stable. I believe you can get HD on Freeview+ (or something) now or will do soon. Freesat offers that already.
I have a Humax PVR Freesat thingy and on the whole, I really like it. The only real negative for me is the EPG (program guide) is VERY slow whilst it tries to render the channel behind (small detail not worth explaining!) but OK once done.
On balance, I am pleased I shifted to Freesat.
I had a Humax Freeview PVR too which I quite liked so, as a brand, Humax would get my vote.

Wot he sed.
We have next to naff all Freeview reception here, and yes if you have a FvHD capable box then HD is beginning to appear - our telly and older PVR are only "normal" Fv, so next to useless.
Freesat HD works like a dream.
There's also "Freesat From Sky" if you have an uncontrollable urge to pay Mr Murdoch for something that's free.
Here's a handy channel list comparison so you can see what you do and don't get with each option - http://www.ukfree.tv/allchannels.php
