Sonos & TV surround sound, inc Itunes
Discussion
Has anyone any experience of Sonos – seems it is an iPad / iPhone controlled music centre, downloading direct from the t’interweb, or from memory and playing wirelessly throughout your home, if you wish to go that far.
Has anyone any experience at all of it ?
We are currently starting to plana room by room transformation of our home, and what I wanted was:-
Widescreen TV – Samsung 50” – LCD, or Plasma ??
Surround sound system – Samsung ?
Sonos, playing through the surround sound system – is this possible ?
I only really want this to be living room based.
Any help is appreciated…
Thanks

Just bought a Sonos zone player S5 and a zone bridge.
The zone bridge connects to your internet router by network cable.
The zone player can then be placed anywhere in the house and play music by wireless streaming from the internet (Spotify or Napster for example) and also from you PC hard drive if on the same network.
Very easy to set up and works/sounds great. You can add as many zone players as you want, in any room, once you have the zone bridge.
The Ipod application is really cool and the icing on the cake ! It can control any of the zone players independently or control them all at once - party mode! You can also control it all from any PC in the house.
If you want to use your own hifi you use a Zone Player which has analogue and digital outputs.

So it seems from this the key ingredients are;
Zone bridge
Zone player – connecting to the cinema surround system, and presumably the pc/laptop, or the ipod/iphone/ipad
So, once set up, will I be able to use sonos speakers instead of the surround sound, or in lieu of actually having them, ie connect the tv straight upto the sonos system ?

There are three types of zone player:
http://www.sonos.com/products/zoneplayers/Default....
One with amp and speakers
One with amp (connect you own speakers)
One with just outputs (connect your own sound system)
You can input sound (TV, CD/MP3 player etc) into a zone player and it can output that sound onto another zone player around the house. Obviously it is not surround sound as it is only one speaker.

With the Sonos system one piece of it has to be hardwired to your router, they make the zone bridge for when the router is in a place where you do not want sound SO if your router IS in a place where you want sound then you dont have to buy a zone bridge. The ZP90 is perfect for connecting upto a surround system as it has RCA out and optical out. It is a awesome system which i would have if i could afford it
Ive installed many for customers and not had any installation issues at all.
Just make sure you choose a cinima kit that has more than one aux input (1 will be used for your TV sound, the other for the sonos)
