Home Cinema and PC Monitor
Discussion
This may sound completely ridiculous. My current crt is 29". I am looking to replace this with something with HD capability for using my pc.
Obviously the sensible choice would be a Full HD LCD/Plasma - 1080p with the pc connected by DVI. So the pc resolution will be for example 1920 x 1080
This is where this thread may become odd.
I've been sent a few email from overclockers who are selling 'large' monitors.
The 30" Hazro is £700 but allows a resolution of 2560 x 1600 which I assume will be better for using the pc. But how will it affect watching 1080p content. Will I be able to output my Virgin Cable box HDMI to it ?
Basically what I am asking is - will a 1080p tv (40inch) look better for both pc and tv than a 30" monitor at a higher resolution.
Can you realistically use a media pc for web browsing / typing / reading the screen from the sofa (10ft away)

If you have a display that is higher resolution than the source (Virgin box at 1080i/p) then the TV will probably scale it up to fill the screen. However, being a PC monitor it may just display the 1920 x 1080 Virgin output as a rectangle within the monitor's screen (ie it'll have black bars on all four sides), but you'd have to check with other owners of this set to confirm.
You can use the a 1080p TV as a monitor perfectly well (I do this myself with a 32" model). It depends what programs you intend to use with it as the higher resolution of the monitor means you can fit more items on the screen. You may also need a more powerful graphics card to play games at 2560 x 1600 so consider this as part of the equation.
Viewing from 10' away may be a little hard (depending on your eyesight) though you can use settings within Windows/explorer to increase the text size to make it easier to see from further away. Another advantage for the TV in this setup is that if get a 40" 1080p TV it will be much bigger than the higher res 30" monitor, thus easier to see.
