Sony Bravia W40A12U error codes - Recoverable?

Hi all,

Hopefully you can help - I've just been given a 'knackered' 40" Sony and I'm hoping I can rescue it to keep as my new gaming screen.

So the symptoms are this;

1: When switching on from standby, the red LED/standby light flashes exactly 12 times.
2: When the TV does fire up, you get a screen full of coloured pixels.
3: When feeding a source signal through it, you have sound but with the same screen of pixels.

The menus on the TV work fine, as well as changing channels.

A search on Google has told me that the 12 flashes are for a 'IIC B Clock Error' and that I can reset to factory settings.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Take it to Peter Castells in town - they fixed my dead Hitachi for about £80.

I'm pretty sure they'll do a quote for nothing or at least very little.
