Have had a Pioneer BDP-LX51FD for the last couple of years but have found it stops playing quite a few discs, even brand new ones. On 2 of the discs i bought recently, Knight and Day and Predators it doesnt even get to the menu, let alone the play the film. None of these issues are present if i fetch the PS3 and use that instead.

The other thing that has always frustrated me is the bootup time for some films, I have experienced 3-4 mins on occasion before i can even press play. I even find myself waiting 20seconds from powering on (from standby) before i can open the tray.

Given the above its time to invest in a replacement. The system is of fairly high spec, a Sim2 HT380 projector and a Pioneer LX81 amp so I would like to find something to match. I dont think I would worry about 3D given the other components arent capable and it doesnt need to be Pioneer. As well as quality i would ideally like a faster loader, the technology must have improved since my last purchase...

Any suggestions very welcome!

Have you tried the latest firmware? It was updated 30/11/10

This is the correct one despite the LX71 link

About to do my BDP-51 now from 1.38 to 1.70. They are brutally slow though - hope it helps.

Workshy,

Updated as per pioneer link, now plays the blurays that wouldnt load and i would say performance does seem to be improved a bit (difficult to measure). Thanks for the tip, worth doing!
