I recently got my Onkyo 5.1 home cinema system, with 3 front speakers, 2 rear and the Sub.

I have connected a 30 pin Ipod lead to the system via 3 Phono (red, white, yellow) but I can only get it to come out the front speakers and sounds a bit tinny.

so my first question is, is it possible to get good quality surround sound from my Iphone 4?

Second question is, can anyone reccomend a cheap docking station with remote that i can plug into my system?

Thanks

You are only providing the amplifier with a two channel sound feed (red and white - yellow is video).

I can get decent surround sound from my ipod touch by using the 30pin connection and connecting it to the aux in my car so you should be able to do this in the house as well using the right dock.

So if I buy this

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC746B/A?fnode=M...

What lead should I use to connect the 30 pin iphone socket to the surround sound system so I get full sound?

What outputs are there on the Apple Universal Dock?

I'm looking for something similar to us to play itunes through a stereo amp.

Would an stereo interconnect do the job?

Also been looking at this:

or this with the phono connectors:

I use the Roth dock wireless £30 on offer from Richer sounds. It charges, sounds really good. The receiver plugs in the back of my Onkyo in the tape audio out and you can have the phone dock up to 10 meters away. I do only use it occasionally as i prefer to play my cds through my system

If that fails look at Apple TV2.

Onkyo make their own dock http://www.richersounds.com/product/ipods-docks-ac... which plugs into the universal port on the back of the receiver.

Recently bought the 6305 as it came with the IPOD dock included and have to say the IPOD sound quality is the best I've heard from any other type of connection.

To answer you question above - the remote will change tracks, fast forward/rewind, pause, play etc... According to some tech specs it will show tracks onscreen but I must have missed that so far!

You really want to use the universal port circled below (as jpringle819 says) on the back of your amp as this will provide the best sound quality, remote control and possibly on screen display. I'm sure only the onkyo Ipod dock will use this: http://www.richersounds.com/product/ipods-docks-ac...
