Hello,

Just wanted to know what people's thoughts were on LG products. Spec for spec they seem to offer more for the money than Panasonics and also seem to get pretty good reviews. Specifically I am interested in the 50PX990. I have always seen them as a tier 2 manufacturer but perhaps this is changing. Anyone got any experience good or bad ?

The best 50" tv by a vast acreage is the Panny 50VT20.

Sufficient of calibre to replace a Pioneer 5090.

The end.

We've got four of them scattered around the house.

Very pleased so far and no problems.

Technically though, I know frig all about them.

Unless you're an absolute fanatic or you buy a second "amazing" TV and put it next to the LG in your living room, I don't see how you'll notice any difference.

That is the one I am leaning towards. However specifically what makes you say that ?

Most of the magazine reviews I've translated about LG TVs say that they're a decent quality option for people looking to spend a bit less. I can't remember specific details on any one model, but the reviews I've seen do make the point that they offer quality which isn't top-level, but it's getting there, and as such they offer good value for money given that they're not the most expensive on the market.

I don't own one though, so I can't say for sure how much of that is true. I'm just telling you what I've seen in reviews. smile

That more or less aligns with what I was thinking thank you. Which Magazines are decent for getting up to speed on home cinema matters ? I have not found a decent review site online.

Most of the ones I've seen have been Swedish or German magazines, sorry. You could try this site:

The fact that the Pioneer Kuros were (still are) far superior ito broad signal amelioration than anything and that the VT20 series picked up that baton and ran on with even greater processing prowess.

Black levelling (that doesn't obfuscate detail,) associated contrast ratio and consequent colour fidelity that is on another planet whilst motion processing is (cet par) the least invasive since the dawn of man.

A better illustration of subjective analysis trumping on paper box ticking you will rarely find.

I agree, I had a demo on a VT20 at the w/end, an awesome bit of kit. Its just a shame they dont do it in a 42" tho. I must admit, In the smaller sizes, I'm leaning towards the Sony HX803 (in 40") now they're on offer and maybe buy the 3D pack (which im not that bother about yet!) at a later date.

Havent really looked at the LG's actually so would be interested on views on their 42" sets..

I bought an LG 42LE4900.....led TV last Saturday

I took it back on Sunday... It was terrible...dark, flat, and no contrast or definition in the picture... My old Phillips LCD would knock spots off it.

The wife and I spent all evening, trying to get a half decent picture on the LG.... But it was impossible... Nothing we did made it better.....all it did was make it different, but still crap....

Swapped it for a Samsung, which is due tomorrow..... I'm hoping for a big improvement at nearly twice the price of the LGsmile
Maybe a case of out of this

into this maybe

I have an LG 37" LCD purchased from our good friend Der above a few years ago. I cant fault the set. When I asked for advice I was told the LG and Samsung used the same display panels but different internals and the LG appeared less in the returns department.

When I make the move to a bigger screen for 3D and if an LG model looks right at the time I wont hesitate to buy another.

Another vote for LG here. Can't fault it, well made quality set with very small side bezels - something that put my off the Panny (my last G20 had huge bezels). Can't notice any concernable picture difference either, cetainly no loss that I can see. Bought the LG just for gaming on but now have moved the Panny out because the LG actually looks better due to be small bezels. Early days but so far so good and will buy another for the guest room.

I was told the same about Samsung and Sony :/

Either way I have had my Samsung for 3 or 4yrs now and it has been faultless. No issue with buy LG either (I am looking at an LG HD Monitor for my PC)

Excellent that is what I wanted to know. FTAOD I was not doubting your answer but given that you must see more televisions than most I wanted to know the reasons.

Cheers
