Sound System for a Gym
Discussion
Hi guys,
I wanted a sound system for a gym room I am building in my house.
The only criteria are that:
-There must be an iPod dock (can be bought separately, but just has to be compatible)
-Fairly loud sound and fairly crisp bass (As it is a pretty large room)
-Preferably wireless, but not a requirement
I know there are several ways of doing this, so I need some help.
(Eg. buying a home cinema system and an iPod dock to connect, or a wireless speaker system etc.)
I don't have a limitless budget, so if we could keep it not too pricey, would be much appreciated
Thanks guys

If your home gym is going to be like most, it is going to be acoustically appalling. My advice would be, at least as far as the amps and speakers go, don't bother with anything too elaborate or bass heavy.
I have a couple of wall mounted speakers in my gym with a 40w amp and it's great. Anything more would be a waste and any louder a cacophony!
ETA How large will the room be exactly?

Thanks for the suggestion.JBL control one 2.4g (as many pairs as needed)

So if I buy 2 sets, will the sound link up through all 4?
Does it have an iPod dock, or just an Aux connection?
£199 sounds about right for a set of 2?
And the sound quality is good I assume?

It is 64m2 in area, I am not sure of dimensions. ETA How large will the room be exactly?
I would only need speakers in one half of the room though (where all the gym equipment is going, pool table, table tennis in the other half)

Sorry, missed your reply.I would only need speakers in one half of the room though (where all the gym equipment is going, pool table, table tennis in the other half)
Anyway, sounds like a nice space
. I assumed when you said gym, it would be just that. If this is more of a games room with some sound absorbing/difusing surfaces (drapes/blinds, sofa etc) maybe you could put something a bit more meaty in.You could even put some home made "superchunk" bass traps in the corners if you wanted to go to the next level. Ceiling height is also a factor obviously.
You need to give a budget really for folk to help you out any more than that.

Somewhere between £100-£350. I think the very maximum would be £400. The women of the house will not be happy if I spent too much on sound!Anyway, sounds like a nice space

However, for that I should be able to get something which sounds fairly decent and is iPod connectable right?
Big thanks for all the help with this.

Sonos S5 and a Zonebridge to connect to your router. If you have an iphone or ipod touch use that as your remote via a free app.
Total cost at RRP £418.00
Thanks for the suggestion. The only problem being that the room is not in the house, and I believe too far to pick up the WiFi signalTotal cost at RRP £418.00

The Sonos system uses its own 'mesh' network so doesnt rely on the strength of your wi fi signal. It should be OK for around 15 metres if you pop another Zonebridge in the room nearest to the gym ....would mean another £79.00 though!
Will think about it...getting pretty expensive now! Also, the room is completely separate from the main house.
I have seen the Beatbox by Dr Dre for £350.
Does anyone have one or have experience of the quality?
(I have the Beats headphones, and know the sound is fantastic on them)

Just for the fact that they couldn't be more original than put "I" in front of it's name, I would never buy that product.http://www.kantospeakers.com/products/ipair5-in-be...
