Panasonic or Sony TVs

I paid £599 for a SONY KDL40EX503U (including £100 get-the-VAT-back-with-Sony, sadly now ended)
and after 3 months I can say I am delighted. Incredible picture, lovely menus, and with Bravia Sync it can control my PS3 via the HDMI cable and therefore integrates really well.
I see why the KDL**EX503 range won so many awards

I have a 32" Sony LCD in the bedroom, have had it for over 2 years now. Gret picture and hasnt missed a beat. Also have a 42" Panasonic Plasma downstairs which is around 2, 2 and a half years old. If your going for a 37" go for a Panasonic Plasma, with your £500 budget you should be spoilt for choice. Both good brands with plenty of choice, Im sure you wont be dissapointed with either.
For picture quality even at 37" the plasma wins...
For lots of 3-letter gadgets gizmos and stickers on the box, go LCD.
Not sure on sound quality.... I spent AGES wondering which of these two very TVs I should get... I have an AV amp and speakers so the audio was not an issue.... in the end.... I got a 42G20B....plasma still rules in terms of outrighht contrast and blacks...
Oh yeah..."IMO"

Got the Sony 40EX703U at home, we spent ages in the shop getting the bloke to set up a Panasonic (forget the model No now) and the Sony next to each other with the same thing on and made the sales guy fiddle with the settings so they're all the same and the difference in side-by-side picture quality was minimal, if any. I could hardly tell the difference after hours of squinting, humming and ahhhing ... so we went with the one we liked the look of and would fit in with our lounge. So we bought the Sony. TV picture is sharp, Freeview HD is lovely, computer linked to it playing 1080p HD films are stunning. It takes a bit of setting up for films/ TV/ sport etc but once you're happy with the picture & motion settings, leave it alone and you're away. Just spend some time turning features on, off, on, off and seeing what you like the look of.
Got a Sony Bluray player for christmas and the integration with the TV is brilliant. No need for 2 remotes, even for the fiddly first setup, downloading new firmware and whatnot.
Also got an Onkyo 808 AV reciever on order that should be delivered in the next couple of days which is supposed to allow controlling over HDMI and programmable remote so hopefully one remote will run the lot.
So don't believe the hype, everyone looks for different things, demo them side by side and go with the one you prefer, not the one the internets tell you to buy.

Went through a similar decision about a year ago for my Mum... Sony or Panasonic LCD in 32" or 37".
Went for a top of the range 100Hz 32" Panasonic LCD...was about 600 quid just over a year ago. Excellent TV, and I'm still not sure that it's not actually a better picture than the top of the range 42" Panasonic plasma one I bought last month
