Home Networked wifi remote control app type stuff
Discussion
Sorry about the mouthful of a title.
Being the tech gadget/geek that I am, I'm trying to find out if anyone has a Networked app for the iphone to control Networked Home Cinema equipment via wifi and not infrared?
Programmable buttons with macros, kind of Crestron/Pronto home cinema style.
I've seen such apps as MOTE, http://www.iruleathome.com/ and http://www.bitwisecontrols.com/
Any ideas , anyone done this? Do I need third party tools to control the equipment?
The kit i'm trying to connect is :
Panasonic TX-P46VT20B
Popcorn Hour A-210
QNAP TS-509 NAS
these all have Ethernet connectivity.

Hi I currently use the irule with the itach wifi ir unit on my iPad and it works very well. It does need a bit of setting up. But if you have used the pronto software it's not an issue, it just takes time. And if the ir code is not on the irule data base it easy to teach the code
I ended up with the irule software as it allowed me to buy 1 licence and design a remote that I can use on both my iPad and iPhone, most other apps I looked at would not do this. I also found the irule software quite user friendly compared to others I tested
The itach unit works well and you just hide it away and plug the ir blaster in and it just works. I did have a few problems with it at first but this was down to my network not the unit. I also ended up contacting both irule and global cache about my issues and there service was first rate
Just go for it it's a gadget

Thanks carlymart sounds interesting. Can you explain a bit more about how the iTach connects to your equipment?
Is with like an eye to the infrared receiver or actually hard wired?
hi the itach connects via your wifi network or cat 5 cable depending on the unit you buy. Is with like an eye to the infrared receiver or actually hard wired?
to connect to your tv dvd amp etc you use one 3 IR emitters that are supplied with the unit these stick onto the area were the IR receiver is on the unit. there is also an IR blaster supplied that floods an area with IR, you can tell the unit what emitters are connected, and the wifi unit works with WEP passwords
Most of the apps available use 3rd party hardware that sits on the wired or wireless network and they are the parts that spit out the IR or RS232 codes for control.
Most people use the Global Cashe boxes either rebranded or not.
I have installed a clients house with ControlFX (a dealer only solution) that does this. Two iPads controlling 2 rooms, a 6x6 video matrix, 3 Sky boxes, BluRay and a Surround Sound Amp.
I have another one going in next week with 3 Sky boxes, 4x2 HDMI matrix, 2 screens and a 6 zone music system all off 2 iPads, an iPhone and an iPod Touch.
