Ok, so i've bought a new monitor and am just trying to find out which is the best cable to use to connect it to my graphic card.

I've got a 1 GB Geforce 9800GT which has 2 DVI (DVI-D ?) ports.

Now i've bought a Philips 24" wide TFT Screen which has 1 x VGA, 1 x DVI-D, and 1 x HDMi port on the back.

The monitor came with a VGA to VGA cable, and i've had 2 adaptors laying around, one is a VGA-DVI adaptor, and one is a DVI-HDMi adaptor.

At the moment i've got the VGA cable plugged into the VGA port on the monitor, and the other end into the VGA-DVI adaptor into the DVI port on my graphics card.

I'd like to get the best results out of the monitor/graphic card combination (mainly used for games) so do i :

A) Buy a DVI to DVI cable and use that to connect monitor to card.

B) Buy a HDMi cable and plug one HDMi bit into the HDMi port on the monitor, and the other end into the HDMi-DVI adaptor, and hook that up to card.

C) Leave it as it is (VGA on monitor, into VGA-DVI adaptor into DVI port on card) as it doesn't make that much differnce anyway.

Ok thanks guys.

So DVI is better quality then HDMi then ? As i thought HDMi was like the best cable quality out at the moment.

DVI and HDMI are the same, connectors are just different.

As with the above. Keep it all native and go DVI to DVI. Much better than VGA.

Your graphics card doesn't output HDMI, so how will you plug it into the monitor..? wink

DVI will be perfect (still digital).

As already mentioned the digital side of DVI is the same as HDMI, HDMI just had some extras for tv use.

I still have a 9800GT 512mb. Never found any reason to upgrade it really.. That said, I would like a newer card.
