Was going to get a new tv and DVD player on Saturday that ive been looking at on their website. Trouble is today the tv's gone up £40 in price. Has anyone dealt with them before and got money off or do I have no chance??

Shouldn't be a problem, tell them the price you saw it at and they are usually only to happy to sell at that price. If you don't ask you don't getsmile

They are normally very good and will come up with a deal.

The bunch in the Bristol branch are a good crowd.

They're great in there.

A while ago, I didn't have a lot of cash and needed a new tuner.... The deal was already pretty good, but I asked for a discount.

The guy said he couldn't discount, but they did have an RMA item which had been repaired and was as good as new. Warily, I asked to see the unit, and it turned out that it had a tiny scratch on the back.

I eagerly agreed to the deal, and I'm still happy three years on.

They are normally very good, and will always honour web prices and what not. Usually when buying lots of components they will also do a deal.

However on a few occasions i have found them to be very rigid. Once they would not budge on the CA BluRAy player, and on another occasion after spending over £1000 they would not throw in a 1m HDMI cable for free!

I was in Richer Sounds a few years ago and, being nosey and looking at their computer, saw the mark up on some LCD / Plasma wall mounts we were buying. They sold them for £100 each.... they paid £9.99 for them.

A little secret I was shown a few years ago in Richer Sounds. On their screens for each item in store, it shows the cost price of each of the units. The staff - at that time at least - were told that they could pretty much sell the stock at any cost providing it didn't go lower than the cost price.

I bought a few things off them and it got to the point where they just showed me the screen and we worked up from the cost price to an acceptable price... smile

Call their bluff and tell them you know about it and see if they'll show it to you.

Good luck

I would avoid them like the plague.

Recently bought a new amp. They coldn't read the stock list, I wasted 2 50 mile round trips to the Cardiff store chasing 2 amps they said they had in stock but didn't. Emailed customer services to complain and they said they would send some vouchers as an apology, after 2 weeks of hanging around, phonecalls, emails and still no amp, £20 turned up. Frankly an insult offering £20 off £1000 worth of amp.

So I went to the internet with free next day delivery and £50 cheaper than Richer Sounds.

Honestly, buy from the internet, it's quicker, cheaper and far less hassle than the chimps in Cardiff who can't read a stock list.

Parents aren't too far away from the Bristol one, maybe should have got them to pick it up than bother with the Cardiff store. Cardiff branch is more of an Egyptian looky-looky market stall than a respectable hi-fi outlet

Never had a discount on the hifi stuff, but had cables and batteries etc thrown into the deal (plus a free mug and lolly pop of course!)

Not used Reading for about 4 years, but was always happy with them - held stock for me if I called first, never tried to fob me off with 'graded' stock, and were happy to check their online pricing if I thought it was lower than store price.

And that is why you are happy with Reading .

Awful experience in there a few months back , they act as though they are doing you a favour , and in fact are bloody rude .

I knew what I wanted , (a panasonic G20 tv), they had it in stock , but tried palming me off with an open box item saying that is all they had.

When I finally walked out they came out and said they had just found an unopened boxed tv.
