Hi, In the market this week to but a new large LCD or Plasma TV, My current model is a Samsung 40" LCD which is about 5 years old now, I was of the understanding at the time that LCD was the way to go but have been reading here that many better in the know than me state Plasma,

I am wanting bigger than before and 55" is as small as I want to go but would prefer a 60", Style is equally as important to me as although I want a great picture many of the add on things you can do on a TV nowadays I wouldnt use,

3D I would consider but only if the amount being paid was not much much higher.

My budget would be up to 2K although am happier at the 1300 to 1500 mark.

Any reccomendations would be great

Standard response would be Panasonic Plasma, but beyond 50" outgoing model range, there's only the 55" VT30 coming soonish, but pricing is looking to be circa £2500, when it does.
It'll take a few months to see that come closer to your stated max budget.

So either a 50" G / V / VT20 or GT / VT30 if you'd like the latest offerings.
On the latter, you going to pay early adopter premium, so can you wait a while or does it need done now.
The outgoing models are going to become harder to find as stocks are whittled down, so timing is the main concern if you're to buy at the right price or get the one you want.

You really can't go wrong with a Panasonic. We bought a G25 about 6 months ago, not sure what the UK equivalent is, but it's very good.

That Samsung looks well worth considering at 63", Im starting to think that I should try and buy a 3D one, I have found a LG ( LG60PX990 ) for about £ 1850 but I cant help thinking that the name LG does not catch me like Samsung, Sharp, panny etc, Im probably completly wrong on that but LG just strikes me as being cheap and I guess it is just that as its the lowest priced 60" 3D I have found.

Sharp have a 60" for about £ 2400 model LC 60LE925E, wonder if the system and or name is worth paying the extra £ 650

I'd sooner go for an LG over Samsung, but Panasonic is still the one that trumps both.
Sharp doesn't even enter the reckoning any more - they tried to take on Samsung, and it quite literally fked them.
Like Sony too, they lost their way for a lot of years, and only recently are making some sort of comeback, but a company who uses a VGA input to double up as Component, doesn't deserve a penny of my money.
That was the last time I looked at a Sharp, and even then it was only out of mild curiosity.

Probably a silly question but one I dont know the answer to, If I get a 3D TV which I will use for Sky 3D channels but for DVD's in 3D do they exsist or is it only Blu ray in 3D that I would need to get a special 3D player for or not ?

Only 3D capable BR players can playback 3D movies in 3D, regular ones will be just 2D, if they can even play them at all. I haven't looked too much into that aspect of things.
So you will need one if you want to take advantage of the 3D'ness of your telly.
