DVD recorder? alternatives ?

The VCR has packed up recently. The 10 year old solid Sony DVD player is also on its last legs.

So, time to catch up with the latest tech. I think I need a DVD recorder. Or a hard drive recorder. So recommend me something cheap and just records with no bells or whistles.


I have a 2 year old Panasonic plasma (S10 I think). This replaced a 10 year old Sony cathode ray - so I'm old and tight.
No need for freeview - I live in Hong kong, where we get digital land channels . No need for Blu ray. Would prefer Panasonic (so reduce remote control clutter) but it seems that DVD recorders are already old hat with no recent releases.

If you just wanting to record TV programs then you need a PVR, this is a recorder with built in HDD, which one depends on how you get your TV, you say over a loacl network, is this a cable company? If so they may well supply a PVR box.

DVD recorders are now old hat.
