Just wondering really. I was brought up with these in the '80s and it was the sign of a good quality stereo - the more channels the better. It was almost a status symbol.

Where did they all go?

Yeah, I quite liked them, especially if they had an LED 'spectrum analyser'! I still have 1/4 DIN and 1/2 DIN Jobbies up in the loft if I ever resurect an interest in car stereos lol.

I don't think most hifi amps have the necessary loop through facilities any more actually...

Do you hear that faint popping sound?

That, my friend, is the sound that thousands of high-fidelity purists across the country make when their heads explode.

LOL biggrin

True but only in the same way that aftermarket spoilers/bodykits are a sign of quality to boy racers wink

In some ways I miss the bling of the old graphic equalisers in the same way that I miss seeing folks with massive bling ghetto blasters on park benches etc.

I've still got one in the loft in my folks house. Well it was there when I left. smile

Black and I recall 10 frequencies per channel.

In a way they still exist, but you can't see them or at least the 'sliders' anyway...Many current AV amps have Audyssey EQ which has many more than 10 frequencies per channel (can't remember exactly how many though). The difference being that you can't control the frequencies as this is set by the amp when you do the initial setup (using a supplied mic), though there are a few setting choices, such as 'Flat', 'Audyssey' or even 'Manual' if you want to mess about with the sound yourself.

Right, now back to the car threads. smile

I have this on my Onkyo amp

It just doesn't have the same artistic licence as sliders. Think that rather large number of sliders on the amp in Risky Business where Tom Cruise is dancing round the house to 'Old Time Rock and Roll'

As for talk of Spectum Analysers - I'm salivating thinking back to them. Yum yum

They have disappeared from HiFi because it was considered that they ruined the sound quality. The modern equivalent are the adjustable "Effects" many Audio Visual amps have. HiFi sound can be altered by changing components and or cables.
