Curborough Tvr lap times
Discussion
I can't remember the times, but my proudest motor sporting moment was an outright class win at Curborough
The weather was dry and warm, all the cerbs, Chims, and griff 500's had had their runs.... Then Quinny, in his 4.3 BV griff sat on the line..... Determination written across his face, a bead of sweat was wiped from his brow, the visor was dropped, revs rose, and like the great drivers before him the throttle was floored.... The little griff pulled hard, a perfect launch, a flick of the wrist saw 2nd which was quickly dispatched for 3rd..... On the balance of adhesion, with a little opposite lock applied the car was balanced through the first left hand curve.....
Back down to 2nd, hard on the brakes and into the switch back... The perfect line, then the long right hairpin at the top of the course, power applied as early a possible.... 90mph then hard on the brakes as the griff was flung right to take on the second part of the lap, again perfect brakeing gear changes and balance led to the hairpin again....
The line now in sight, full power applied, up through the box, and across the line at well over 100..... Heart beating hard, I knew it was a good time..... I didn't know how good until I returned to the paddock to see all the long faces from my fellow TVR competitors... YES, the smallest engined car on the day had done the business....
Obviously 14 years later it doesn't mean much to me and I've forgotten most of what happened that sunny afternoon

That was marvellous Quinny, I was in the car! Brilliant stuff, yeah you know as you go this is getting better and better, massive feeling. The faces are like the sweetest icing.
My mates done a lot round Curberough so I have a very fast bench mark( S2000 )
Just wondering how well the Tvrs go.
By that description on that day fooooking fantastic.
Those splits are all really flying Quinny, love it, welldone sir a win lasts forever.
You didn't feel like you could walk on water afterwards did you, slightly godly, taller, like you'd been out the stratosphere and viewed the world from above. Lol
Anyway Quinny that tales no good if you can't remember the time!
Come on think way back,,,,,,,,, I bet you've never re lived those moments before but try, lol
Respect is total. You can't argue with trophies.

Come on someone must have had a go round Curborough ?
Just a rough idea for a Chim/Griff, road tyres, standardish car.
66, 68, 72. 80? Anything just so I have something to think about.
Quinny you must remember some times, give me an idea of what's respectable given some practice?
Forget records just a mean average will do. Thanks Al

That's what I was hoping you'd say, that's pretty good, that's really good!
Right, now I just have to fix my car and get up there and have a blast. If I get anywhere near 70 I'll be happy as I've only been on the track there a couple of times.
I'm of the mind I don't need to compete anymore but still you want to do the car justice.
I think I was asking simply to work out how quick a Tvr is against other machinery, I'm pleased to hear those numbers Quinny, I'm assuming that would be on track tyres, toyo's etc.
I might carry on with the car now, lol.

Alun that old griff was an early 92 Precat 4.3 with V8D big valve heads.... It made 285 hp, and back in the day it ran with bog standard Bilsteins which replaced knackard konis... Bridgestone SO2 tyres, and no rear anti roll bar...
It had just over 100k miles on the clock too...
I saw the car 3 years ago, so all being well it's still on the road somewhere..

The driver counts for a lot.
I think my mates managed a 68 in this S2000 64's in an old Caterham, I was just thinking the S2000 should be faster than the Tvr, getting my excuses together, lol lol lol
I'm putting my standard Y piece back on ( cat ) I want to cruise as much as anything but having a play can't hurt.
One meet there was loads of slick shod hill climbing screamers, rubber and grip for all the other guys, that don't half help.
Its all subjective. I need a reason to own a Tvr and the odd trackday with a few sprints seems to make sense
I'm not fast on the road, noooo,so how else can I get the thrill, power doesn't do much, its the handling I like. Its still pretty heavy as a track vehicle goes so I'm not after records just setting it up properly and letting the car sing a bit.
Trouble is its also a pretty penny to do and I need a chassis first!!!!
Its good to see other guys still pummelling round in there 60's so I've got time.
I like doing stuff on the clock, I used to look at Carting lap charts for iron man races I'd done, 72 laps around Buckmore,
After awhile I could tell from the time where I'd gone faster/ slower, how consistent I could be, I enjoyed studying that as much as the race. I'll add I never won one either. 3rd, bugger! My valid excuse, cart had s
t grip in all the right handers, that's everywhere then!
Waffle waffle, yep I've got to find out where I'm at with my base speed and a sprint is hardcore stuff.
Cheers for sharing that Quinny.
