The Almost Brand New High Peak Region TVRCC - Next Meet.....
Discussion
A special treat this month for our third meeting, everyone
When? At 12:30pm on Sunday 29th June, 2014
Where? Meet up at the first layby out of Whaley Bridge on the A5004 ( the Long Hill road towards Buxton ).
Lunch stop will be approx 14:00hrs at the Pack Horse Inn, Crowdecote, SK17 0DB
The object is to follow the course of the Parsley Hay 12 mile Motor Racing Road Circuit that very nearly was.
It was first proposed in 1950 by some enthusiasts, and the idea was supported by Reg Parnell of the Aston Martin team and TT rider Tom Lomas amongst many others.
The works Jaguars of the time were expected to be reaching 180mph along the main straight, which is now the A515 from Buxton to Ashbourne ( and subject nowadays to a 50mph limit ).
In 1955, the scheme was about to be ratified by Act of Parliament, but the terrible accident at Le Mans put an abrupt end to the plans.
It will be nice to imagine what could have been, a jewel in this country's motor racing crown - like Le Mans, but with hills, set in a spectacular backdrop of Peak District scenery.
It's Richard's plan, sounds great
He says map & history will be available.
Let's hope for decent weather. All welcome!
See you all on the day
