Slalom event 10th May
Discussion
My car club has organised another slalom at a great venue - Blandford Army Camp in Dorset.
For those that don't know, a slalom is effectively an autotest with two big differences - you use a co driver and don't ever use reverse gear. A number of cones are laid out and you have to drive around them on a set route as fast as possible.
It is held on a large open tarmac area and there is nothing to hit!
Any car is eligible - at the last event there was everything from a new Hyundai estate, to rally cars, MG midgets and a Lotus Elise belonging to my girlfriend (Miss Notax). I've entered similar events in my Chimaera and thought I'd invite you guys to try it...
No licence or helmets are needed and the cost is £20 + £5 for a day's membership of the car club.
There are also some great roads in the area so I'd be happy to arrange a nonvoy there - perhaps starting at Rownhams on the M27...
To summarise - great fun, very low cost days motorsport, no preparations at all, and even a TVR should survive the day intact
This is me frying tyres at the last one (nb this approach isn't necessarily good for times (or tyres
) but I was busy showing off to sponsors...

Hi Moose, good to catch up earlier
Show boating is allowed (driving very sideways is afterall a bona fide way to get around the cones...) So long as you aren't endangering anyone I can't see there being a problem lighting the tyres up at the end if you'd like some action shots - spectators (otherwise known as service crew) are allowed but all attendees need to pre register as the event is held at a live army base and security checks are made. It is also VITAL to bring photo ID on the day.
Be great to see you and the other guys

better get practising! Thanks for tip off Andy and for OP Chris.

Does this mean we've got a Viper coming too? You're more than welcome but I'm not sure it would be my first choice of car for the event! Should be an interesting 'smoke out' between you and Moose though Pete (Viper)

(not me....yet!)
Excellent
Our event isn't quite as open as that one - and includes 360 turns too! Different drivers use different techniques - fastest way is often to drive in a neat circle, although I prefer the handbrake turn/power oversteer method (as per photo at top of thread
)
Should be a very entertaining day!
I am sure Andy will have given you details of the day, but if you'd like my contact details please pm me. Look forward to seeing (and hearing) you!

oooh just up the road
Do they have to be road legal? I might bring the Deronda
No need to be road legal/taxed or insured - although you'll sadly have to miss out on the hoon element of the day! There are probably still a couple of spaces - you will need to pre book asap though - no entries accepted on the day due to MOD need to security check you first.Do they have to be road legal? I might bring the Deronda
Please pm me if you'd like more info...
As far as I know there are no actual limits - we just don't want to upset nearby residents and lose the venue...
So long as the car is as lousd as you would have it for the average track day you'll be fine. To be technical I gues around 103db max - but no one will check on the day. If you want more reassurance call Aaron the organiser whose number is on the form. Look forward to seeing you!

Great to meet all you guys - and glad everyone enjoyed it
Sorry if the tyre bills are a bit bigger than expected
Thanks for the video zs, good to see my TVR in action - suprisingly little smoke - especially compared to Moose!! Looking forward to seeing my double doughnut if you've captured it...
Moose deserves the 'most anhilated tyre' award - I've had mine down to the wires before but not burned through those as well
Maybe Moose can post a piccie of the tyres in question..?
Hope you all enjoyed the hoon element too - it was a bit quick for some of the Lotus participants, glad everyone seems to be ticket free...
Next slalom is on 19th July at the same venue - and there may be a grass one too
Look forward to seeing you at the next one
