Hi,

I know about the Middlesex meet nearby, but is there a Herts/Beds TVRCC meet these days? I think I only went to about one of them back in the day and I let my club membership lapse while I was off playing with other marques.

Particularly eagre to speak to local Chim owners about potential purchases/general advice.

Cheers,

Chris

So there is.

I came along once in response to a thread on here where I'd expressed the view that clubs were not my thing. "Not at all" someone from Herts TVRCC insisted "Come and meet us, we're friendly. Give it a try.". So I did.

All a bit bleak to be honest, a potholed car park off the A1. We talked about the possibility of a change of venue, to Panshanger airfield to be exact. You might recall I said I'd have a chat with the management there to see if they'd accomodate you. I took the time to drive up there, called in a favour and persuaded them it would be in their interest to waive membership for you all (airfield owner insists upon it to keep out the riff-raff). Emailed you (or someone at Herts TVRCC) with the details. Never heard from you again, neither did the airfield I'm told.

Still, at least I have the third Sunday in every month free.

Hi Flintstone

That sounds unfortunate, but as I don't know the specifics of what happened I can't - in fairness - really comment. For myself, I go along primarily to meet up, talk shop with people over a drink and see other kinds of TVRs. Chris is welcome to come along and meet folks to see what he thinks and then take it from there.

Thanks

Alex

The Middlesex Region is a good bet as Andy (Primary RO) is a Chim owner and Nick (Secondary RO) had one for many years.

There is also the Bucks Region meeting near Tring.

try a bit harder!

to the OP: great bunch of guys who are always willing to talk TVR's, and I am sure someone will offer to take you for a blast.

Happy to take you out in the Griff if that helps. Hope to see you there in Nov.

Don't think I'll be able to make the Old Orchard one (that's tonight I believe?) as I've got stacks of work on at the moment, but will try and make it to the next Ace meet. Can I ask when that is?

The Herts area - and indeed weekend meets - are perhaps slightly more convenient as I'm right on the edge of London (on the M25 practically) and it's often quicker to go out than it is to head in. Will head over to both if I have the time though. I've definitely decided on a Chim now - probably a 450 if I can find a good one in budget - so the more I can look at/sit in/ride in to get an idea of the standard the better. smile

Well Alex, the specifics are as I described them. The irony was that I went along as it had been said that my perceptions of clubs were wrong. I put my perceptions aside and having made a real effort was treated shabbily. In my opinion of course.

Sure, what else would you have me do? Try harder than turning up to a club at which I'm not even a member and going out of my way to help? Standing in a grey, wet car park for a couple of hours at a venue which is frankly depressing? Taking best part of a day off to visit a potential new venue for you, calling in a favour to save you money and then emailling one of your members to say I'd done all that only to receive not so much as an acknowledgement? What else? Tell me. Honestly, I'm all ears.

Well I might have given it a go had I known but having handed over my details and been promised I'd be hearing about how to join I heard nothing. Nada. Zilch. Can't really turn up if I don't know it's happening.

Things like the run-ins are mostly posted in this section of PistonHeads. For last year I organised around 10 run-ins all posted here.

For me the meets are about a good mornings blat and then blethering for an hour or so before pissing off. Keep your eyes posted in this section for the run-in details which usually appear a week or so before the 3rd sunday of the month.

Cheers, Jon

P.s It would be great to see how your beast goes against my little Lotus...now with 400bhp/tonne too biggrin Pretty sure we spoke at a meet several moons back....

Shabbily eh!

Well as the outgoing RO who put four years into the meetings, I do recall speaking to someone about Panshanger airfield as a potential venue.

I never heard anything further from you so I assumed, wrongly, obviously, that you were either unable to visit the potential venue, the venue had declined or that you were blowing smoke as it were.

Clubs are about the members and not the venue, as I have tried to explain before, the sort of venue people seeem to want just does'nt exist.

Imagine the place for a moment

It has a large car park, neatly kept with no potholoes
There is somewhere for families to keep themselves amused while the TVR owner chats in the car park.
The bar/cafe/restuarant is light and airy
The food is good and is available nearly all day
The owner/landlord is friendly and welcoming

All of these exist in many shapes and forms and there are hundreds of places that meet all of the above and they are going to be popular venues especially on a Sunday except

The club needs the owner/landlord to accept that they will spend next to no money
The place needs to be empty on a Sunday lunchtime to enable it to accomodate 25 to 35 TVR's for one Sunday a month for 10 months of the year.

Let me assure you those places are a little harder to find. I my opinion of course.

Oh and by the way I did visit Panshanger to see if it would be suitable and in my opinion it wouldnt have been for many reasons.

Over to you Alex,

Good luck with it my Friend...

Hey Mal

I'm sure I speak for everyone in thanking you for all the effort you have put into the club over the last four years+ in getting the region going (and keeping it going). Not an easy feat by any means I'm sure!

I couldn't agree more myself. A club is about the people who make it up - not the venue - and I've always found the meetings more than worth going to, else I wouldn't have volunteered to take over wink

I hope we are still going to see you pop along occasionally to the monthly meets and update us on how life in non-TVR land is going. I suspect myself and John are going to be picking your brains for a bit so I hope you will bear with us until everything is up and running.

Anyway, thanks again for all the hard work and I wish you all the best for the future!

Best wishes

Alex

Hi Amazon

Yes, that's the general idea smile

Mal has moved on to pastures new and I'm the new kid on the block so to speak. I'll make a more formal announcement at the next meet when I've recovered from the shock. hehe
