To be fair, there are a lot of possible Atlantis sites so the story could have some truth in it and be based on a historical event.
Most likely, it would have been a volcanic island that erupted I would have thought (due to mentions about fertility of the land etc).
AGW on the other hand is a load of poorly written fairy tale s

There's no "could have some truth" in the trailer at the moment.
It was an event in history...end of.
Don' know anything aboot this save for the trailer. There are many eruptions in history, were there bull horns in the trailer? If so this Atlantis may be the Crete version? It was an event in history...end of.

I recall seeing a proper programme that did find evidence of Tsunami damage on Crete caused by the eruption of Santorini and suggested Crete and the Minoan civilisation were Atlantis.
Didn't see the programme tonight but were they dramatising it like they did with the Krakatoa eruption drama a few years back?

Factually based drama telling the story of the greatest natural disaster to shake the ancient world, a disaster that triggered the downfall of a civilisation and spawned a legend.

Factually based on the works of Plato?
The way it is worded, it appears the existence of Atlantis is now accepted as fact. Is there some evidence I have missed lately?
From what I remember, the was a few islands on the Med who were wiped out from volcanos, tsunamis etc, this lead to whichever Greek Geek it was that I can't remember, to write the story of Atlantis. So it is truth based but been embellished and dramatised. Bit like the American War films...
The minoan eruption is a very good candidate for significant ancient events:
- The destruction of the ancient Minoan civilisation on Crete, Atlantis
- The parting of the red sea and suqsequent destruction of Egypt's army when the water returned
- The "pillar of fire and smoke" in Exodus

But the BBC reporting a theory or possibility as fact is nothing new as mentioned above!
