So, with Doctor Who having been kicking around in one incarnation or another for almost half a century, who is the first actor to spring to mind as the definitive version?
Personally I reckon it'll be a close run thing between Tom Baker and David Tennant, but then I'm not old enough to remember those prior to Tom Baker, so someone a little more senior may suggest I'm completely wrong!
I know there was a big pause in the middle, but there can't be many other portrayals of the same character stretching over quite such a long timescale?

Paul McGann is missing from your list.
Yeah, I know, but PH only lets you put 10 items on a poll, so I figured with him just having done the one film, it was unlikely that anyone would go for him. I suppose you're going to prove me wrong now?
I want to vote for him

Cushing played a character called Dr. Who, rather than The Doctor, who was human instead of a Time Lord. Because of this the two films in which he appeared are not considered canon. The best you could do is to suggest the events of the films took place in an alternative universe.
In short, he doesn't count.

I was torn, Tom Baker came to mind straight away, as did Peter Davidson (who I liked) as that was my childhood era, however I went for David Tennant as I really liked his interpretation of the Doctor most of all.
Christopher Eccleston did a great job to bring him back and I thought at the time he was really good but David Tennant definitely stepped into the role and upped it more.
I can't make my mind up about Matt Smith. I enjoy watching it still but I don't think he will ever be as good as David T. Still miss him as the Doctor.
