Greatest "car" movie?

I was thinking about what my top 10 movies would be today, and there would have to be a "car" movie in there somewhere but which one? I couldn't think of one that was truly great (maybe I just haven't seen it yet)! As far as I see it, there are 3 main genres:
1) Car as an intrinsic character in the movie e.g. Cars, Knight Rider, Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky and Hutch etc.
2) Racing movie e.g. Le Mans, Gumball Rally, Driven, Cannonball Run, Days of Thunder
3) Other e.g. Fast and Furioses, Gone in 60 seconds (x2), Italian Job (x2), Initial D, Convoy (I know it's trucks)
So, what's the greatest "car" movie?

I have never forgotten Yves Montand saying:
"The danger? Well, of course. But you are missing a very important point. I think if any of us imagined - really imagined - what it would be like to go into a tree at 150 miles per hour we would probably never get into the cars at all, none of us. So it has always seemed to me that to do something very dangerous requires a certain absence of imagination."

Got to be the cannonball run! Cars are a bit old and naff by todays standard but its just a classic film!
