Loking at my Virgin HD feed on my low definition (CRT!) TV set, it seems to look slightly different, I'm not saying better, than the LD channel.

Is this possible or is it purely my imagination?

It is possible depending on which channel(s) you're watching.

Most of the Sky SD channels are broadcast in a lower resolution than "full" SD. Can't remember exactly but think it is 480p instead of 580p. This was most noticeable when Sky took over Living as the SD picture was worse the next day! They presumably did this to make the difference with HD more obvious...

Therefore, if you're looking at Sky SD vs HD you will possible notice a difference even on an SD set because you're still looking at a higher resolution picture (I think).

Sky Sports News and Sky News are still broadcast in the higher resolution I think.

If none of this applies as it's not Sky channels you're watching, ignore all of the above.
