I have read that Lucas is re-doing the prequels in 3-D. What I want to know is this - Will people really go to see Episode 1 again?

I love Star Wars, but have absolutely no intention of watching the three prequals at the cimema again. Is this a franchise milking step too far this time?

Films that were poor in 1-D will still be poor in 3-D.

I stopped buying into the Star Wars upgrade con after the DVD release.

And that's exactly what it is - a con.

There are plenty of suckers who lap up Lucas' drip-drip approach which is precisely why Lucasfilms continues to re-issue the movies in some form or another.

The Phantom Menace in 3D is due in Feb 2012 and I definitely won't be paying to see this.

Jar Jar binks in 3D?

I envisage all viewers standing up trying to club that annoying tt to death and storming out when they realise it's 3D.

And yet everyone with a computer or console would pay £40 for an updated version of the x-wing / tie fighter flight sims. Come on you bearded fool, get Lucasarts working on something that the fans actually want!

Oh, for the love of God, Lucas, WHY?

Why does R2 now have to hide BEHIND some fking CGI rocks? I can kind of understand replacing puppet Yoda with CGI Yoda in some of the scenes in The Phantom Menace (as the puppet just doesn't cut it in HD), but fking CGI rocks? What is the fking point, because you now raise the question "How the fk did R2 get in to that gap in the first place"?

(assuming the above grabs are genuine)

Have you read the Thrawn trilogy?
I think that would be a good version. With a bit of the Emperor's clone/return story thrown in for good measure. I see these being made in the future, maybe when Lucas pops it.
Hopefully Someone like gary Kurtz will be around to make them as good as Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.

If you want a real laugh you should check out the 1300page Star Wars Blu-Ray thread on the Blu-ray.com forums. Start around page 1100 and it's hilarious.

there are people who actually believe this is a hoax. That someone, somewhere, has managed to get 1080p copies that are superior to the HDTV rips, gone to the trouble of adding a load of material that wasn't in the films and then uploaded the clips to Youtube, etc to cause outrage amongst the fans. Their logic is (and a number of them actually use this argument) "they're not released until the 16th so until I have the discs in my hand I don't believe it", because of course release dates are something the internet is bound to.

right, this is good timing. i've got one of the blokes who worked on phantom menace working in my office, he also had input into the jarjar binks character. if anyone wants to leave some feedback/messages for him i'll make sure he reads this.

go.

Blimey.

He's got to have some good stories from working on Star Wars? Surely?

The one big question though - Jar Jar Binks. When they made him, did they know he was going to be annoying - was that the point?
