Why is it the James Kirk character acts nothing like Shatner however the rest of the characters you kind of know who they're meant to be in the future?

My guess is they tried the long pauses in his delivery but it didn't work well so they'l just write in Kirk having a minor stroke in the future biggrin

The Enterprise looks nothing like the 60's one either, but you just go with it

Wait until you get to the thoroughly annoying scotty, pegg plays him as if he's had a few lines of coke before every take

Didn't you hear him at the start of the Kobayashi-Maru test? He did a perfect Shatner.

It's certainly a very good reboot of the franchise, which was getting a bit stale.

Peggs take on Scotty was good, but marred by the accent, but IIRC James Doohan had an odd Scottish accent, so kinda fits

Also watching for the first time and just seems like the usual hollywood rubbish. Even if its an alternative reality, kirk should act like kirk.

It's one of my favourite films and my favourite Start Trek film. I just love the way it's filmed and the epic sounds, just great in 5.1 on a big tele.

And the young Kirk as a drunk layabout is poor.
In the original timeline Kirk is brought up by his mother and his father and he always wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps by joining starfleet, in this timeline that Nero has created his father is killed on the day he is born and his mother has remarried someone Kirk hates and he has no respect for and he had no time for Starfleet as he felt it killed his father. So why should young Kirk behave like Shatner's older wiser and more experienced Kirk?

Watching it too, really liked this.

Opening scenes leading up to titles really grabbed the audience by the nuts when it was in the cinema.

Awesome reboot of the Star Trek brand, TNG era films were pretty awful apart from First Contact.

safe to say if you're just seeing the new trek for the first time now, you're not a trekkie / trekker

:P well sure... I'm Star Trek generation, I grew up watching the original series re-runs, the animated Series on BBC after school.

It's to blame for my SF interest, and for that matter interest in science - but I'm no Trekker, I don't own a shirt for a start.

You must get very cold. Should we have a whip round?
