Redbox Recommendations
Discussion
You're all familiar with the Redbox? If not it is a DVD rental vending machine scattered throughout cities, found mostly in food stores and malls, where you can rent a movie or a game for only $1. There is one in front of the 7-11 which is conveniently located across the street from my apartment. Lately my OH and I have been on a Redbox movie kick and I am posting this thread to share with you my enthusiasm over the gems we have found.
I have noticed a trend, a good portion of the movies offered at the Redbox have never been advertised on television or played in the theatres BUT the last few we have rented have been top notch!! I am surprised by this to say the least because the movies we have seen so far have been way better than any movie that's out in theatres IMHO. And they have big named actors and actresses starring in them, from the ones we viewed so far they have included an ensemble of fine actors such as Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marissa Tomei, Ethan Hawke, Nicolas Cage, Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston, Donald Sutherland, Adrien Brody, Forest Whittaker, whew, and many more! A lot of people don't know that actors, even big names, do a lot of straigh to DVD and/or cable movies to fulfill their contractual agreement with studios. So far these DVD movies have been better than the big budget Hollywood ones that get over exposure and played in theatres.
With that said, I highly recommend the following (1 or 2 were played in theatres however). Please participate and feel free to leave your opinion on the movies I listed as well as include a few of your own you have viewed from Redbox...
Before the devil knows your dead
Rise of the planet of the apes
Horrible bosses (just watched tonight, its hysterical!)
The Experiment
Trespass

t quality. I suggest watching it again. It was one of those male bonding adventure movies where you instantly relate to the characters. Like a Hangover movie where you feel like your part of the group. Granted it clearly did not have a multi million dollar budget but by no means did the quality of the film ever elude to that. and for what was an obviously intended borderline indie film it delivered the goods with spot on precision; relatable characters whereby you found yourself instantly rooting for the good guys and hating the bad guys, hilarious situations, easy enough plot executed with a unique filming (directive) style similar to an inide film. And as I said, maybe it wasn't the type of movie for you, but any movie with Kevin Spacey In it is already above average in my book.
(Spoiler alert)
Your telling me you didn't find the following scenes funny:
(Spoiler alert)
- the cocaine scene in the bosses house
- the scene with donald sutherlands son who just became the boss of his fathers company and calls the guyt into his office
- the scene where the dental assistant guy saved kevin spaceys life by jabbing him repeatedly with the epiderm pen?
- the scene when the guy who worked for the chemical plant was spying on jen aniston and he just gets out of his car and rushes inside her home while undressing approaching her opened front door to screw her
- "you were drag racing?...... In a prius?"
- "oh my god my boss is dead? Oh my god, you killd him?"
So many more great scenes!
I think we need a 2nd opinion.
