I seem to recall Wheeler Dealers coming up in conversation once around here and the sheer rage the show got from PH gave me a hearty laugh.

Just flicked through the TV channels now and saw Mike and his hippie friend buying and working on the terrible heap of st that is the mini moke.

If ever a car had to be killed with fire, it was this. Coupled with Brewer, it makes it worse.

Which is a shame, because i used to like him on used car roadshow, but not he annoys me a bit. Maybe its just the concept of buying utter ste cars.

I had to turn it off after 10 minutes.

No, I don't hate him. By all accounts he's a true Petrolhead and a thoroughly nice chap.

That's good enough for me smile.

And there is nothing wrong with the Mini Moke!.

I must say I don't like the blindingly obvious acting on wheeler dealers. That said I love the show. A lot of people will say how they dislike mike but personally I don't see anything wrong.

Love the " haggling " over the price , so scripted it's untrue.

Met both Mike and Edd on Sunday and they are both lovely. The girlfriend dislikes Mike with a passion but I don't mind him.

Don't hate him but he is slightly annoying in a attention deficit syndrome kind of way.

Calls people 'fella' and hugs them all the time.

Eds cool though

Quite like him, bit of an odd character but none the less it makes for good viewing.

like the show, i do dislike the bad acting from people buying the cars and supplieres etc for the show, and the haggling is so much fun to watch but they both proper petrolheads and fact they either bore or annoy others when it comes to cars, aint that a trademark of being a petrolhead?

I don't mind the acting so much. The fact that Mike clearly knows bugger all about mechanics and doesn't appear to listen to Ed does get on my wick a bit. The Mk1 Golf GTi one where he thinks 2nd gear synchro has broken cos he can't tell if he's in 1st or reverse. Ed straight away knows it's the linkage, as would any self respecting car person. Ed even fixes it and tells him it was the linkage, but he still tells the 'buyer' they fixed 2nd gear syncro.
This is not the only time, but a good example.

But still must see telly for a petrolhead.

And if he sat his plump arse on my bonnet, it'd be meeting the floor pretty bloody quickly.

Personally I think Wheeler Dealers is a cracking TV show: I just wish people would realise that IT IS AN ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMME and not something to be taken 100% seriously. rolleyes

Oh, and I'd like to hear the reasoning behind Ed China being a 'hippie'...

I love it but why on earth does he allow himself to be seen on TV in a Ssangyong Rexton? Surely he could do better than that? Is there anything else that he could have driven that said "I know nothing about cars" better than a Rexton?

I like him, and Wheeler Dealers. There are some parts that are definitely a bit scripted, but it's still a good watch. As mentioned above, it's for entertainment and not to be taken 100% seriously. And I agree that the Mini Moke is hideous, but taste is subjective. wink

I know, I know! But the programme is target market for any car company on earth - surely they could have asked anyone for a free car and they would have got it? I mean, a fking Rexton?!!!

Mike Brewer gave me a wipe...*

I love the show, and they are two charachters who fit the programme and play off each other well. Dont take it too seriously its about the cars, and what could be done in our own garages if time wasnt an issue. Its not a fly on the wall documentary about a real garage as some on here seem to think

  • at the NEC classic car show. He was giving out freebies, and gave me an alcohol windscreen wipe. OK??

Yeah, but so is porn. And there's nothing wrong with a guilty pleasure from time to time.

I like WD, it's a bit of car-related fun and you get to see how things are put together. I much prefer it to Top Gear. It's obviously scripted, but so what? If it wasn't it'd never get made.
