Strange that this was reported 3 hours ago:

BBC director general Mark Thompson has defended Jeremy Clarkson over his controversial comments on The One Show, but admitted that the Top Gear presenter was a "polarising figure"


However, Thompson today told the House of Commons culture, media and sport select committee that Clarkson's comments were said "entirely in jest".

He also confirmed that the presenter would not be sacked over a "couple of flippant remarks".

"I believe it is absolutely clear to anyone who watches the clips, perhaps not who reads a section of the transcript, these remarks are said entirely in jest and not to be taken seriously," said Thompson.

"In my view Jeremy Clarkson's remarks were absolutely and clearly intended as a joke."

For normal people, in the twisted politically correct world we now live in, yes a flippant remark, a joke, in fact the one thing that a truly unprejudiced person would feel comfortable saying in public, will see you hunted down and driven out, not by the offended parties, but by the self appointed protectors of the minorities/offended parties - which is no better than the actions of the SS.

But this guy's initials are JC, and so yes, he is too valuable, and he won't be crucified.

If clarkson did disappear I might start watching top gear again .. while he's there I avoid it .. time for new presenters on top gear again anyway ... at least we can be 99% sure they wouldn't do something horrific & bring back noel edmonds to the show
