Hi anyone watch this on bbc1. Very impressed with the chimp, those numbers flashed up so quick you could not even see them. The jay was good as well. The next one should be interesting as well

I'm not convinced the SPEED of the chimp numbers thing was an indication of intelligence. More likely down to physiological differences - faster reactions, faster acting retina, photographic imaging ability, etc. I also disagree that practice would make no difference for humans - after a while even on the 0.06Sec flash I was getting there. You need to look centrally and not read the numbers but 'catch' the image - I'm sure some humans (rain men types probably!) could do it.

The easy life/environment breeding less intelligent birds of identical species hit the nail on the head - allow generations of people to grow up on benefits and they get dumber and dumber.

I haven't seen all of it yet but I saw the Oran Utans with the peanut and was impressed, esp that they all did it. That was quick thinking and definite intelligence.
