Is it me or is there a distinct lack of motoring programmes on tv at the moment? Im a big fan of top gear (flame me all you like) and even fifth gear is better than nothing, but neither have been on for ages and nothing remotely car related seems to be on. I scrapped sky last year and replaced with freesat but even with sky I only had re runs of TG and FG. Am I missing something? Is there a secret motoring channel I havent been made aware of?

There is definitely a drought of car related programming (repeats don't count)

not a big fan of Top Gear as I feel it's all nonsense and staged for effect, some find it exciting I find it annoying as every review is the same

say something great about said car, say something bad, find happy medium, end of review. Meaning the viewer is none the bloody wiser

Can;t wait for the new series of Wheeler Dealers for the big fat bonnet sitter Mike Brewer and his beanstalk slave driven mechanic Ed

I;ve been watching it on youtube constantly in anticipation

I've always thought this. TopGear is rubbish these days and 5th Gear is just trying to copy them.

Theres dozens of cookery, fashion and travel series, countless deep-sea fishing documentaries and more fly-on-the-wall hospital programmes than I care to count. Surely there is an audience for a goddam car show? Loads of people like cars.

It doesn't have to be all about boring bootspace statistics but likewise it doesn't have to be as stupid as TG.

See what you can find online, Jay Leno's Garage and Chris Harris each week gives me at least half a Top Gear episode (and is possibly more interesting than a whole one), and anything on Youtube is better than nothing (the large car channels, subbed Best Motoring/Hot Version etc. that's hundreds of hours of content).

http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/ Might sort your viewing for a few months if you enjoy the videos.

In the USA they have channel 150 'Speed' and it carries all the car and bike racing. When nothing live available there is a lot about custom cars and bikes some of them are broadcast over here.
It is the channel I watch most when I am over there. TG is on BBC America and they are still showing programmes 7 or 8 years old.

Motors TV (413 on Sky) always has some form of Motorsport on, from the MX5 championship, karting, WRC to the Le Mans Series. Sky Sports F1 sometimes show other things when the F1 isn't on.

Even ITV 3 or 4 shows a bit of UK Motorsport; BTCC and Ginetta etc.

There's normally a bit of Overhaulin', American Chopper, Mega Factories, Chasing Classic Cars, Wheeler Dealers, Custom My Ride or something on the Discovery Channels to get by.

+1 mainly for Chris Harris (great interview with Andy Green about Bloodhound SSC this week), the Tuned and Muscle sections are ok, there's a new set of videos with Jalopnik now. Leo Parente does my head in though hehe

The good thing about a Youtube channel full of mostly 5-20 minute videos is that you can pick and choose the bits you like, imagine TG but you can avoid the SIARPC every time and replace it with what you want hehe

I started not liking it, because of the usual US lack of irony and blatant 'adaptation' of every challenge you've ever seen in the UK version, but I ended up rather liking it all!

When he not hamming it up in an 'I'm-a-racing-driver-watch-me-burnout!' section, I like what Tanner has to say about cars, perhaps more so than the UK presenters, whose marque-bias is quite obvious these days.

I believe Dave is suggesting it starts again in America tomorrow.

This chap's quite amusing: youtube.
I think it's the references to pubic hair in his trousers and killer wasps that makes it. I may be wrong.

I find myself watching a lot of car vids on YouTube now. The Drive ones, particularly Chris Harris's are pretty good and a lot of the Evo ones are also good. I loved the Harry Metcalfe Zonda 750RS one for example.

The fact that most are available in HD means that I can watch them full-screen on my laptop or on the TV which is a huge improvement over watching them in a tiny little window on the PC as we had to not so long ago.

Obviously there are other YouTube channels like Autocars for example but generally the presenters on these tend to be a bit wooden and should probably stick to writing about the cars.
