That's a great shame, he made my childhood a place of adventure. We even named a puppy Fireball XL V (the buyer asked us if we would mind if he changed the name).

He has left a fine legacy of TV shows behind him.

A few days back I decided to start on a mini marathon of childhood TV favourites.

Space 1999, Fireball XL5 (really before my time), Captain Scarlet, Stingray and Thunderbirds.

Watched a few episodes of Space 1999, it is definitely better than I ever remember it being. Scarlet is truly fantastic viewing. Thunderbirds ... the big surprise on that is the length of the episodes. Kids today wouldn't sit and watch a 1 hour show, would they?

I missed "The Adventures of Twizzle" but I can remember looking forward to visiting my granny and grandad where I could watch "Torchy the Battery Boy".

Innocent times.

I was a fan of Terrahawks, Stingray was repeated in the summer as well.
Also fondly recall Space 1999.

This man, after Rev W Awdry, was a huge part of my childhood, his shows were some of the greatest I have ever seen. Such a loss to the world. Thunderbirds was the largest part, but Captain Scarlet and Stingray are up there.

What a guy.

RIP

When I were a lad (60s) there were always kids playing in the strett in summer evenings apart from the day Thunderbirds was on.

As soon as it finished we all dashed out to play, presumably in Virgil, Scott, Alan etc mode.

Given the lack of TV technology available at the time, it was all pretyy impressive stuff!

You see, apart from the sad loss of Mr Anderson, the problem is we have lost so many inspirational people this awful year.

There is no one to inspire the children of today away from the "celeb" and to fire their imaginations beyond the mundane.

Perhaps it's all part of a plan.

RIP, as has been said before, FAB, and nuke it from orbit, baby.

RIP Gerry. I used to work with him when I worked at the Moving Picture Company in Soho in the early 90's. He was always a bit 'difficult', but underneath was a good guy. And as quite a few people have said, I grew up with his series on the TV. Thunderbirds will always be my favourite.
