Top Gear - your thoughts
Discussion
I think the last season started to bring the balance back. I went massivley off TG a few seasons ago, but watched the last season. Whilst they still annoy me somewhat, and its predictable and not particularly funny I did find myself enjoying some of it. They had more car focused stuff IMO. I would like it to be entirely car related stuff, with the odd bit of pratting about and challenges but keeping it sensible and motoring focused, rather than filling cars with water and launching reliant robins with rockets attatched to them etc. I don't think I'll get my way though.

for me, i think they already do a good blend of reviews and fun/challenges. I think top gear would really struggle if it was more serious and "stats" based.
i love the light-hearted humour on a sunday night. some episodes get long in the tooth but on the whole i find it enjoyable. those who want them to talk more about numbers and diffs and suspension geometry etc etc are boring folk, and think TG would really struggle if that was the case.

I think, as a whole, the show is pretty good.. the problem they have is that they've done just about EVERYTHING they could possibly do now, so coming up with new ideas is a little difficult I guess.
I'd love to see more cheap car challenges (£1,500 Porsches remains a favourite), road trips (Vietnam was brilliant), and "features" - such as the ones they did on Saab, Lancia, Communist Cars and the origins of motoring. They have the chance to show the chemistry of the presenters, and when they put their minds to it they actually produce some interesting and informative content whilst still retaining the comedy edge.
I could happily never watch Star in a Reasonably Priced Car ever again - unless it was more F1 drivers, or actual petrolheads - e.g. Jay Leno.

agree 100% - i LOVE the challenges, they're superb. likewise, i usually skip star in a reasonably priced carI'd love to see more cheap car challenges (£1,500 Porsches remains a favourite), road trips (Vietnam was brilliant), and "features" - such as the ones they did on Saab, Lancia, Communist Cars and the origins of motoring. I think the format is too familiar. I didn't make any effort to watch the last series. I know that I'll be able to catch up some time on Dave!
Like what has been said, if they make it too car tech orientated its going to lose viewers. I'm an old git, I used to like the stuff Quentin did. A small section on older cars would be nice, but I don't think it would help the ratings.

I'll confess my interest. I'm applying for a job as a director on the next series and I am genuinely interested to hear your thoughts.
everyone is different, and suspect what some on PH want, are not what the x-million other viewers want. but for me, certainly the challenges (ala cheap car or going abroad etc...loved the botswana one for example) but...coming up with new ideas after 18 series is always going to be hard.E38Ross said:

If you get rid of drunken cameramen ( silly angles , cameras wobbling , high speed cuts in between shots ) stupid stunts , endless tyre smoking , paid for through TV licence . perhaps I might watch “live” instead of recording , and using fast forward to cut out the dross you would get my vote
