Inside Gatwick
Discussion
A rainy Sunday here, so I'm watching "Inside Gatwick" on TV. As the name suggests, it's about Gatwick Airport.
They have just interviewed some bloke who moved directly under the final approach to Gatwick Airport 10 years ago. He and his wife now spends his time in the garden, noting down the time every time he gets bothered by aircraft noise, which is quite a lot as you would expect as he bought a house directly under final approach. He also writes into the Gatwick Airport operator every day and complains.
I'm just wondering if buying a house in the flightpath of an airport which is already operating, then complaining about it daily in writing is a personality disorder or if he is just f
king thick?

t!
But then, where I used to live people complained about the noise of the church bells, the vicar used to tell than that the bells had been there since 1492 and ask how long they'd lived there!

Yeah.... I can imagine the house is probably quite a nice house too, which thankfully, due to it being under a flight path, he got for a substantially cheaper price, than he would have done if it was situated somewhere else.
However, now he realizes that he is never going to be able to sell it, because its under that fligh path, and it was a false economy - so rather than live with the poor decision, he'll try and disrupt the airport instead.
And if when he bought the house, he felt the number of flights was acceptable, but never invisaged they would increase - then he is a moron.

Had a similar situation at work...
Guy buys a house next to railway line and near a footbridge that takes you to a children's playground. Kids stand on the footbridge and wave to drivers to get them to blow their whistles.
Guy decides that this is unacceptable and complains to the rail company threatening all sorts.
Cue EVERY train blowing the whistle when going past whether kids are there or not and for good measure, blowing on the loud setting.
Complaints soon stopped...

Pretty sure the same thing happened in Edinburgh. Flats got built near established nightclub. Club then gets noise abatement notices due to residents of said flats not liking the fact there is a nightclub outside their flats.
Idiots!
Same thing happened to a music venue in Cardiff, the owners of The Point had to spend so much on soundproofing the place went bust..Idiots!
I live on the flight path to Heathrow and you know what you're getting when you move there, and you get used to it or move if you can't live with it..

Did I misunderstand it or did they spend £3million on consultation to decide to replace black on yellow signage with yellow on black?
It sounds ridiculous but it's probably sensible- there's a lot of money spent on working out why planes crash and sometimes it is as silly as the human brain not fully noticing and decoding colour patterns, They've spent considerably more than that working out rules for verbal comms, as it's just so critical
