So I've done the Sorkin stuff, and The Sopranos and Breaking Bad - and loved 'em. Am I going to like Dexter? Looks like a lot of hours needed!

I love Dexter! Yes there are 8 series (series 4 is best in my view) but it goes really fast. I have just finished watching the last series and miss it already. Try the first series and see how you get on. Also because there are 8 series it really allows for the characters to develop and you find out more about them which keeps your interest too.

Went downhill after season 4 imo, dragged it out to a bizarre ending.

Series 4 is the best one, but they are all good. Series 5 and 6 are the weakest, but still good - a bad series of Dexter is better than a good series of most other programs. I'm not sure about the bizarre ending, I've got one more episode of season 8 left to go and in typical Dexter fashion I'm sure it will not be wrapped up as I'm expecting it to.

I know that when I've finished it, which will be later on today more than likely, and I will really, really miss the program. Every episode feels like a holiday to sunny Miami with old friends, with some murders , obviously.

Went on too long and the last series was just insulting, but overall I'd recommend it.

Watch up to the end of Series 4 and pretend it ends there, it's for the best.

Worth watching - at its best, it's very very good. But at its worst, it really is quite terrible. Inconsistent best describes it.

Season 1 is good, season 2 is good, season 3 is rubbish, season 4 is brilliant, season 5 is quite enjoyable, season 6 is a bit rubbish, season 7 is a welcome return to form and season 8 is an abortion.

I loved it when I got into it, but the last season spoiled the whole lot and was quite frankly insulting.

If you enjoy the first season, you'll enjoy the others. I'd advice either stopping at season 4 or if you want more 7 as 8 isn't worth the effort.

It is good. I only started watching it recently. I have only seen series 1-4. I did create a thread but some silly tt spoiled it, and others will insist on giving their views on events later on. If you don't mind stuff of that sort, this thread will be OK for you, otherwise just start watching it and ignore this thread from now on. smile

Fantastic show. I've watched them all except the last 3 episodes, I've heard it's a disappointing end so I'm not bothering with it.

As others have said, when it's good it is great but maybe went on a season or two too long, it was one of my favourite shows though, along with Breaking Bad, The Shield, and The Wire

Wasn't there a Dexter megathread where we could discuss the program without having to put spoiler tags on everything?

I'd go with Sons of Anarchy or Justified before Dexter.

I liked Dexter, series 2 was quite weak in my opinion but series 4 (i think it was) was probably the best one. Went a bit downhill after that but still worth watching, but series 8 was not really worth watching. Watch the 1st 4-5 seasons smile

Later series went the way of 24, with the "done everything" - every type of killer/personality/situation/relationship exploited to the Nth. First few series were great and well worth watching.

Pretty much summed up perfectly.

Watch the first few seasons but only continue if you have time or are desperately bored.

Dexter is a great show all in all.

Season 1 & 2 are great

Season 3 is the weakest I've found (great acting but not enough Dexter)

Season 4, 5 & 6 all good as they flow on from one another

Season 7 & 8 are good but disappointing at the same time

I hope you enjoy them.

First two seasons are brilliant and S4 is very good.

You may want to call it a day after S5 though as some of the later seasons are poor. S8 is downright awful.
